I have the copper tape wounds on a Rob Allen MB-5 5 string fretless and they are great! The have a rich, warm sound. The pickup is piezo, so not dependent on output of the strings. In fact, the output of the piezo is quite hot going into the amp.

Thank you Foothilla and TomB! This guides me as I begin thinking about compressors and HPFs and evening out the dynamics of my playing on two different semi hollow fretless, piezo basses that can be a bit boomy.

I'm thinking of getting a compressor to use with my MB-2 fretless five string. Is anyone using a compressor that works well with the piezo? People mention a HPF here sometimes. Is that intended to tame the attack of the low notes and generally to even out the notes from a piezo? Is a HPF...

I have one that I tried with one of my basses, but I ended up not using. It is essentially new, but since I'm not using it I could sell it.

I have both VT and Programmable Bass Driver DI Sans Amps that I use in different situations. I also use them with a BP-300 and a Bass Cub. They always sound good.

Have tried a sans amp? That seems to do the trick for my PJB BP-800 and C-4 rig.

White out adds a bit of brightness.

Pat Wilkins in CA. did a great job of refinishing my fingerboard and the price was reasonable.

Here it is. I have had this PS5 for 12 years and I like it more every year. It is Black Limba with a three piece, 35" Maple neck with a Pau Ferro fingerboard. The neck feels just right! Also, here is the Drakkar that Pete is building now. I'm awaiting this with great excitement.

I'm with you Vic. The longer I play, the more I love my PS 5 from 10/2006! I feel content that it is the best bass I have ever played. The better player I become, the more I appreciate this bass. However, thanks to my dad, who before he died gave me some money, Pete is building me a fretless...
