Ampeg V4B RI vs Vintage...Pros and Cons?

I love my 76 V4B. So far it hasn't given me a hint of problems, so I guess it was well taken care of. Haven't played a RI, but I'm very happy with the original

Have You Ever Forgotten Gear After A Gig?

No, and I'm honestly surprised by that. I'm intensely scatterbrained. Honestly I'll forget gear at our rehearsal space all the time, but it's an amazingly safe place to leave gear. At gigs, it's the other way around. If I'm not actively playing my gear, I won't take my eyes off it. It took me a...

    What Is Your "Beater" Bass?

Mine is a 96 MIM Fender P Bass. I'm pretty sure this thing would survive a 2nd floor drop onto concrete. This has been my only "real" bass for the past several years that I gel with. I just grabbed a Rick 4003W which is my new main squeeze, but for nights I'm feeling rowdy, the P Bass will come...

Should I buy this brand new Ampeg 8x10???

My main cab is an 810CL. You definitely don't need to crank your amp to get great sound out of it. They're amazing cabs that are more than the sum of their parts. Do it!

    NBD: My 1st Rick ('18 4003W)

Thanks! They really are a sight to behold. I'd seen the walnut models in pics but seeing one in person is a whole different thing. The pics don't do them justice, something about that oil finish I think. It seems incredibly versatile to me. I find I don't even need to adjust amp settings...

    NBD: My 1st Rick ('18 4003W)

I've wanted one since I first heard the opening notes of Rush's Cyngus X-1 as a teenager in the mid-2000s. I finally sealed the deal on one and I'm absolutely in love. This is one of those instruments I know I'm never gonna get rid of. The feel is simply stunning to my hands, with the neck...

Pick players, what picks and pickups?

I do about 50/50 fingers and pick. A lot of music I play is aggressive, and heavy pick attack into my V4B sitting at the edge of breakup creates the perfect tone to match it IMO. I've cycled through more types of pick than I care to remember, but found I'm very happy with Clayton 1.9mm acetal...

    1st Bass, ever

Fender Rumbles can be very nice for home use. I'm honestly impressed with the sound for what they are. Living in a small space, the 15W version is enough to scare the neighbors. If it gets too late, I can plug headphones in for silent recording. It doubles as my home practice amp for guitar too...

How do you feel with selling your basses?

Once I get attached to an instrument I will not let go. Might sound dumb, but they feel like physical extensions of my voice once I make the decision to keep one.

For Those That Play A P-Bass...Why Do You Like It So Much?

To be fair the bridge pickup was 100% non-functional and the bass came with heavy cosmetic wear. Still, a working $50 bass is hard to turn down. It's a pleasing sound for what it is. I've had great fun writing chordal bass parts with it and adding my own drum beats.

the Official Ampeg Club Part 5

How's the PF50T treating you? It's definitely on my list of things to try if and when possible. I like the V4B's full-blown OD so the idea of a similarly voiced amp with less headroom is interesting. I'd like to pick up a smaller cab to push the amp harder for some songs. I've tested its full...

the Official Ampeg Club Part 5

Could have sworn I joined here. Running my '76 V4B nice and hot into an 810CL multiple times a week. Image 1 is pre-V4B. Was running an SVT-3Pro. Not a bad piece of rig but I wanted real overdriven power tubes too. Excuse the poor image quality please. Every pic I take of this amp turns out...

Last Albums You Listened To In Their Entirety?

Stories at the Homerun Office by the Otonana Trio. Just learned about these guys recently and I'm absolutely stunned. Amazing songwriting and musicianship.

Fuzz addict club! If you don't like it fuzz off!

Just got a Team Awesome Fuzz Machine. Was using a Swollen Pickle before, but it has since been moved back to my guitar rig for home use. If I ever have a need for more than one bass fuzz at a time, it might move back. For now, I'm incredibly satisfied with the TAFM. It's everything I could ask...
