id want to see some pics of the contours to make sure its a left over body. itll be pretty obvious as the waist cut is way thinner. those old 80's reissues are drier and punchier sound to my ear than a pre cbs bass which in general have had a more spongy, thicker low mid response ime.

these were a godsend to find. i use to grind down washers to fit. these are much more simple. i buy them just to have them around.

i still do prefer the 74's as theyre a little hotter which is closer to pre cbs. my 62 jazz has pickups that are in the 8k range and are much fuller in the low mids and low highs (while still having air up top). overall, theyre way meatier sounding than the originals, 64s and the custom shop...

have you tried the fender originals? theyre very similar sounding pickups in tone and construction/turns. the yosemite set is more open since theyre lower wind. the pure vintage 74's are closer to a pre cbs pickup (plain enamel/high 7k,low 8k) than the 64s.

as was mentioned earlier, its the break angle. if youre nearly bottomed out, youre going to either need to shim the neck or use a thinner base plate. i use to have a nordstrand vj5 that i ordered new. it came with a hipshot vintage bridge. with the action i like, the saddles were almost bottomed...

kiesel for sure. i replaced my 70's f bass vf5 with an ash/maple carvin jb5 and havent missed the f bass. they default 70's spacing, but 60's is an option if you order.

i dont think the top down view measurement of nut width takes into account the shoulders of the neck carve. the widest point is definitely going to affect the feel of it in your left hand. heres a pic of my 62 and 76

using a set of digital calipers, my 4 bolt 74 and 3 bolt 76 are both 1.53 at the nut. my 62 jazz is 1.47. these are the only old fenders i have left currently, but all that ive owned over the years have followed that trend.
