I have a 1983 P-bass '62 reissue and am considering switching up the strings.
How does the pickup compare to the typical American Standard p bass? I thought I read that the '62 reissues have less bass and more mid, making it more "flat", whereas the AS is more bass and more scooped.
I have TI's on my 83/ '62 bass (the exact same pair as I had on the AS) and the AS sounded fuller and deeper. I can only assume this is a result of the pickup.
So, am I crazy and hearing things that arent there, or is the '62 voiced with less bass? To that end, the TI's are mid heavy, and with a further mid boosted pickup, am I getting too much? Obviously subjective, but I miss that thicker sound of the AS with the TIs (I sold it, and only have room in my life for one p bass, so none of this "get two p basses" nonsense

)
What strings would give me more low end, a slightly scooped sound, but still be warm? I'm looking into the LaBellas, maybe the Chromes... What would you all recommend?
