Fender Fullerton Reissue club

Interesting to see how in 1984 the Jazz Bass body outline has now changed compared to ‘82 & ‘83 models. Fullerton’s “router hump” has now gone while the pick guard and control panel are more recessed , also the lower horn was slightly more rounded . Leftover stock featuring these later Fullerton bodies would find their way on to early Corona reissue models .

That green Jazz is quite a looker! I remember when Guitarpoint had it up for sale on their page - they wanted quite a lot for it!

The colour is actually Surf Green, not Seafoam. I double-checked on the Fender price list from June 1986 - Surf Green was offered, Seafoam wasn't.

My Fiesta 84 Jazz is neck marked and stamped 4/13/84 just like this one. Perhaps they were cranking out the Fiestas on that day ... or at least a batch of necks.

Well spotted regarding Surf Green ,my price lists run from early 1982-85. The Corona era was far more ambitious with colour options . By the nineties the US Vintage Series had become more diluted in it’s from it’s original concept .

The seller was charging mega bucks. Judging by the E string ,the nut on this bass was also poorly cut too . Definitely a Fullerton body , the lower horn is more defined while the pick guard and control panel proximity is closer to the body edge.

It’s funny, when I received the ‘82 I thought it was a fake! Another difference is the placement of the tuner holes - the ‘82 has them closer to the edge of the headstock, the backing plate is actually proud of the headstock

Checked my ‘83 ,compared to your ‘82 the tuner isn’t as close to the edge .

Please I need your help to clarify my jazz bass origins. I bought it as a 1986 AVRI62 because of the serial number V020***, but the body is stamped from 1990, the neck and pots from 1989... And as you will see the tuners are not the traditionnals kluson reissues, they are more like the original 60s ones...
(I have the 2 original saddles missings, just waiting for new screws)
Obviously i dont have neither original case nor accessoires except neck pu ashtray.

Yes. As you described it. It is U.S. Vintage Reissue (Corona) from 1990 with "60s" tuners. Looks great!

Fender did some coarse thread vintage reissue tuners in the 80s. I have the same tuners on my 1984 Fullerton Jazz bass. For reference here is a real vintage Fender tuner:

Great looking bass . The pick guard might be aftermarket as the screw placement is directly above the neck p/u. Fullerton/Corona reissues generally have this screw fixing to the right. (Photo).

Picked up my '1983 57 AVRI a little over 10 years ago on CL for 500. I can't remember playing such a great p bass before. A plus for me is that the neck is dated JAN 26 83 which is my birthdate only 17 years later.

Regardingt tuners, thank you king_biscuit, it seems to be rare bur i ve seen on internet an other AVRI62 with the same "reissue prototype" (ratio is same as the original 60's, but the thread is a bit different), for exemple on Fullerton of the link below (mix of tuners):

The bass in your link has two tuners of each type. Odd, I thought.

I then checked my files and I had saved photos of this bass when it was offered by someone on Basschat in June 2014. All four tuners were the same back then, all of the reissue type you'd expect (with the fine threading).

Do you know when the link is from?

As far as I know the japanese "JV Series" had that coarse thread tuners aswell:
