Who is this bassist? (Jethro Tull)

That's Jeffrey Hammond Hammond on Aqualung...I dig him, but Glenn is a beast!!! Anyone heard their new bassist, Dave Goodier? He seems quite a good player....

    Alphonso Johnson

Alphonso Johnson is one of my biggest influences, and one of the tastier and groovier players around...his solo on George Duke's "floop the loop" is still outstanding after 35 years!!! An album featuring Alphonso that I particulary like is "Passages" by Frank Gambale, not flashy/chopsy lines...

The #1 song on your birthday

Yeah, I added that "81" 'cause the world is ful of "Nickbass"... :D so we're the same age!! I like "Sailing", but if I had to pick one single Cross tune I'd still go for "Ride Like The Wind"... :)

    Most Transparent Bassist albums

Yeah, grab "Mariella.." it's a great album with amazing musicianship but not "wanking"...plus it has the best version of "Fall" I've heard until now (except the original of course)..

    Most Transparent Bassist albums

+100 on Bona's records. Another one that comes to mind is "Resonator" by Tony Levin, the bass is prominent but serves well the songs without too much flashes (except for a couple of songs) and plus it's a vocal albums. In the jazz/fusion field I'd say "Mariella's Dream" by Oscar Stagnaro, there...

Hadrien Faraud No Longer With MacLaughlin

We should always listen to our drummer friends! That said, H. Feraud is a MONSTER player without any doubt, but probably E. Mbappe is a better rounded player, and this comes from experience...also Etienne has great skills, but he displays it only when needed ! (I saw him years ago with the...

    5 strings + fingerstyle bassplayers

I know, but I needed to put them anyway... or better, I didn't understood that I had to put "only fingerstyle" players... :D they slap but they have also a very distinctive fingerstyle..also Stubenhaus and Porcaro slapped alot during the eighties, but it seems to be just fingerstyle nowadays...

    5 strings + fingerstyle bassplayers

Mike Porcaro Tom Kennedy Neil Stubenhaus Alphonso Johnson Tony Levin (Ok, he's using pretty everything to hit the strings of his bass...but he can considered a fingerstyle player!) Will Lee (when he plays a 5 strings) Even if alredy named, I must say Nathan East and Jimmy Johnson, two...

Question for players in blues bands...

I play in a blues band, from traditional blues classics (Muddy Waters, BB King) to rock blues (Hendrix, Vaughan) and jazzy/funky blues (our original tunes, Robben Ford, Joey De Francesco, a couple of jazz/blues standards)....I'll take solos sometimes, quite simple if I'm playing blues classics...

Who else is a Pop bassist?!

Well. pop music is such a large amount of artists and such a subjective definition that I bet everyone of us has played with pop acts!!! I played with a lot of local pop singers (if by "pop music" you mean very easy listening music, but not necessarily silly or too simple), and when I go to...
