    Avatar players - your opinion?

Sounds like both are good - 410 may be more my ticket. I was thinking that any cab will have some natural frequency preferences, but this BX1500 amp does have a lot of EQ, so I should have control.

    Avatar players - your opinion?

Really wanting a new Avatar cab... (black tolex/black+silver weave grill) I need a cab that's clean, focused, and versatile... in both tone and power handling jazz/covers/CCM/classic rock/etc... from Monk to Creedence to Michael W Smith to funk :-) Question is to you Avatar guys because...

Double Bass Any thoughts on a Gibson bass?

That's a good reference. Thanks, MollyKay. One thing that I wonder if is common at all with these is that it has position indicators (dots) on the edge of the fingerboard. It's in fairly rough shape, and I think the top was refinished some time ago and is missing the pinstripes. It needs...

Double Bass Any thoughts on a Gibson bass?

Thanks - hard to tell how old this one might be. I may try to have someone look at it, and I'll see if I can get some pics up.

Double Bass Any thoughts on a Gibson bass?

I just got an old bass, in rough shape, made by Gibson in Kalamazoo, MI, according to the label. Model B-125-841. Does anyone have any knowledge of these basses? Any idea of how to date?

fretless replacement neck for P/J bass

I am hesitant to try, because the neck is the main deficiency of the bass now, but I guess it wouldn't hurt, if I am planning to get rid of it anyway. I really like the idea of having no lines, though, and I like ebony. I wonder if defretting, either mine or another (MIM) neck, and then...

fretless replacement neck for P/J bass

What do you think of ebonal fingerboards? (I have a Washburn T14 fretless that has a bad fingerboard - I'm not sure what it's made of. To me it has a strange sound.) I really like a mellow, string bass sound but one that can also be toned for a little more clarity and punch.

fretless replacement neck for P/J bass

I think the pocket will work with Fender type necks. Any good sources for MIM necks? Also regarding the SX fretless - do they have standard dimensions in the pocket? I hope to get something nice, but not sure about spending $300+ for some I've seen.

fretless replacement neck for P/J bass

I have a cheap (Johnson...) J bass that I would like to convert to a playable fretless. I put EMGs in just to be able to use it, and the 'burst finish and white pickgaurd are actually decent. I would like to put a new fretless neck on this bass, and I actually prefer the P bass nut-width -...

    Carvin RL410 for five string

Makes sense - probably how it's going to go... We'll see how it goes; likely just a case of GAS trying to flare up again.

    Carvin RL410 for five string

I am using a Carvin R1000 with a RL410 cabinet that is working well now with my four string Jazz. I am probably going to get a five string soon. Does anyone have experience with this cabinet (or ones like it) used with a five string? I play in a large hall often, which tends to soak up the...

cheap bass upgrade or look elsewhere?

smogg can read me like a book! Trouble is, I seem to gravitate toward the expensive - even though I'm working from the bottom end of the quality spectrum now, when I stop in a music shop there just doesn't seem to be the "wow, that's a great bass" until I get into the upper shelf Fenders, Music...

cheap bass upgrade or look elsewhere?

I got back into regular playing this year, after a long time off... I play out pretty much every week, mostly contemporary Christian music, and some jazz. I have been getting by with a Johnson J-bass, which has been surprisingly workable. Just to be able to play the thing (in public), I...

Why did Jaco remove the pickguard?

Surely there is a much deeper philosophy at work here. (our shallowness runs deep) In the fashion of the '60's, Jaco was exploring a new freedom in shedding his pickguard. Walls must come down, traditions challenged, bras burned, pickguards removed... If he were to have been more...

    15" driver recommendation

Do you think it would be wise to use a 4 ohm driver? Again, mostly I would use this stand-alone, but I could use it with my 410..
