That's typical German/Austrian pricing. You'll find a Wal in the local ads or bass fora for quite below 4k every now and then. Got lucky, once. That neck really has some lovely flames in the maple strips. I drooled over it a couple of times.

First: The one in the middle is totally killer. Love that top. (is that the "doorstep" wal?) Second (and off topic): Nice Mesa 2x12 cab... which one is it? Rectifier (Compact)? Road King? I'm currently looking to find a cab to match my '93 Dual Rectifier for recording purposes.

That's a beautifully quilted flame top! With an ebony fretboard... very nice. And quite rare. However, the price is... quite exceptional as well.

Indeed. But the way the ad is written, it's targetted at buyers who have no clue about Wal basses... especially not their (new) prices.

Because there was a used Stereo 400 offered at a rather low price in my area, I researched a bit about this amp and learned that the Mesa Stereo 295 and 400 amps have the same power section as the Bass 400/400+ but were desinged to be used as musical instrument amplifier as well as for high end...

Unfortunately not.... it's not a new build. That's my Mk3 getting refinished by a local luthier.

I've seen the future, and it will be.... greenish!

Not really. It's a Wal body to which Günter Eyb made a neck and routed the body for handmade pickups. The history behind it is unknown. Probably someone who got another body for theyr Wal, or relict from an accident. The problem was that a seller actually advertised it as Wal bass, but took down...

I generally play all my active basses with the volume rolled to about 70%. That gives me some extra volume in case I need it during playing. On the Wals, I generally have the volume knob somewhere around 6 or 7. But naturally, you can adjust the preamp to produce less output as Caca posted.

This head has Sovtek 5881 tubes in there. The other one is fitted with TAD 6L6's... which I was already planning to use when reading up on tubes. That was a nice surprise! However, I don't remember the preamp tubes. The one with TAD6L6 has 4 identical Mesa tubes, but I can't remember what's in...
