Yeah, mine has the switches. The bright switch is cool..the phase switch is just plain weird! I've just done another gig with it, and I *think* the EQ controls are both boost/cut. The treble is, certainly. I find myself using just the rear pickup for fingerstyle, and then switching to both pickups for thumping. Either way it cut straight through the mix without ever getting brittle. Definitely my new favourite!

The controls are boost cut, they just don't have a center detent.

Well it looks like I will be selling my Sabre. @malthumb , you'll be the new mod in charge of handing out numbers.

I'll be putting up the ad tomorrow, but if anyone is interested, I'll be parting with the Trans White Classic that I posted in post #1 for $1350 shipped. Brand new essentially. Message me if interested.

I was practicing today using my blueburst 93 Ray and 14 neptune blue Sabre and the sun came out brightly - couldn't resist taking a picture - did you ever see such bass beauty? [emoji4]

Just a few trivial notes about our little club....
  • 15 members, 20 basses
  • Most popular finish is Ash (natural). 8 of 'em.
  • Member with most Sabres is Handsofseven (3)
  • Two other members have 2 (Malthumb, Basshista)
  • All multiple Sabre owners have at least one ash
  • Not all years are recorded, but 1979 is most popular year of those recorded (4)
  • All multiple Sabre owners own a 1979

And only one member with a mahogany one [emoji6] although I've nearly bought two in ash - a trans white and a natural (fourstringdrums bought the natural) and played one in poplar (blueburst) and one in alder (trans red) - with a view to buying in the last 12 months!!

Having got used to the mahogany one I play it in all my gigs, in the switch position giving bridge humbucker and inner single coil neck pick up - slight upper mid boost on the amp - it has the best bass sound for both finger style and slap I've ever had. These basses are fabulous.

The neptune blue colour is darkish blue in normal light and the burst comes to life as light increases - bright stage light or sunlight and it really pops - the figuring of the mahogany is quite strong also.

drTSTingray makes a very good point.... When I said 8 ash basses, I was only considering the natural finished basses. I did not include the painted basses that have ash bodies.

I used mine last night too - Played the first set on my new Fender Rascal which fitted in nicely with a soulful gentle tone. I then brought the Sabre into play for the second set and its top end sparkle kicked in, along with the sheer tidal wave of tone, all of which brings a big smile to my face...

Every time I play the Classic Sabre, it cements it's place further into my playing tool box.
