i had this prob when connected to recording interface with laptop and an amp. the laptop power was sending ground noise thru the xlr cable which in turn came out my amp. jimmy suggested i get a xlr lift connector for the xlr cable and has worked pefectly. $5

i had this problem too which jimmy helped me. put a xlr lift connector on the xlr cable. laptops and other power ground noise is coming through the xlr cable. the connector disconnects the earth pin on the xlr cable. costs $5

ill answer my own question. no a preamp or boost type pedal (eq,comp) can though

question for the passive bass guys with the jdi. have you tried using a buffered pedal (bosstu2) to help with output level? does this work? thanks pat

yeah tried that on both amp and di. it had me stumped for ages and i just kept trying a few things till it worked. glad to have worked it out at home without pressure so ill be prepared on the gig. i only just bought it so i was relieved it wasnt faulty.
