i have an old active venson bass and i wanted to rewire the pickups to remove the battery so they are passive (the two pickups in there at the moment are some sort of cheap humbucker), is the output drop going to be so significant that its best that i don't, or is this not possible fullstop...

+1 you gotta be careful with uneven tension on the neck. when the string gauge is increased, the neck bends, if only some of the strings tension is increased then the neck can warp into different shapes i'd suggest if you want to experiment with thicker strings then thicken all of them.

i know what you mean.. it happens on loads of basses i have played its not a problem in my mind.. its easy too ignore and you can't hear it amplified, there is so many good things about the bass you should focus on all of it

the ultimate way would be to get a brand new guitar polishing cloth and rub like crazy for ages.. or maybe some sort of electric buffer remember if you use a dirty cloth you will stain the nice maple color

yes i have heard that but i thought it was refering to the bridge cover that you see sometimes not the pickup one

fair enough that makes me think of for example a les paul standard with chrome pickup covers on it rather then a studio or something with the raw pickups on it.. thought there would be another name

what do you call the silver cover thingy that are sometimes found on basses covering the pickup they are some rickenbackers and old p-basses.. and is there any point other then look too have one?

hey i own a gibson thunderbird.. which i really love.. but its just so hard to get your hand above around the 15th fret, which is the main reason why i want a new bass. i love the thin neck, very similar to a fender jazz bass.. if the fender deluxe jazz bass had 22 frets i think it would be...
