    I bought a Cort Action P/J in an auction for £35, then had it re-fretted at what turned out to be a cost of £200 by one of the best luthiers in the region. It's beautiful now and plays really well, so I don't regret it at all. But I could never get back for it what I spent. Not selling though...

    This. In my experience, the Gretsch has a really great neck. Combine it with flats and you have an incredibly playable bass. It's easier to play up and down the board.
