How did you learn to modify your basses?

Well as most of the people here by trial and error, but there are a lot of great ressources on the net (TB of course beeing the first). My original modding threats on this forum http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f57/my-sg-bass-modding-project-528690/ and...

What did you do with your first bass?

Made it fretless + some other mods. Check out my talkbass article on it: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/my-fretless-conversion-part-2-sound-clips-747688/

    Another weak ric pickup thread.

Hi the pickups of my seventies 4001 are on the weak side too (but not that much, that I would mind). If you can, you should meassure the resistance of the pickups. Should be around 8-10 kOhms (mine are like 7 or so), though I don't know if that applies to the newer Ricks as well.

How to get a tighter bass sound (tonally)?

1+ for me; actually I think the single coil P is sounding fantastic (Seymour Duncan has it as quarter pounder version, maybe that's what you like).

Do you use your fretless bass' neck pickup?

Hey I just osted a thread with sound sample of my fretless http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/my-fretless-conversion-part-2-sound-clips-747688/ I use a DiMarzio ModelOne (Mudbucker) and a P-style pickup, where the P is on all the time with some of the DiMarzio blended it. So I guess I'm a havy...

My fretless conversion (part 2 with sound clips!)

Hi folks, not quite recently I posted some pics of my fretless conversion from epiphone EB0 (my first bass). recently I picked it up again and changed to roundwouds (didn't get along with the chromes), installed a Dimarzio Model One as mudbucker replacement. It already got an additional 50'ies...

FINALLY, Apple... (GB on the iPad)

Holy Moly! Imagine you can record 8 tracks on an ipad + the easy edditing in garageband + some library (like drums). Could anyone ever think that was possible on a small mobile device 20 years ago?

    Epiphone EB-3?

I don't think the scale will make a huge difference (stone me I'm a heretic), rather muddy pickups etc. but I haven't compared (I just know short scale EB basses with modern pickups and those don't sound particularly muddy at all).

    Epiphone EB-3?

    The epis have block inlays and tone selector knob as far as I know (like on godofthunder's pic). So it must be Gibson. BTW it's with 3 knobs so probably no old one (with the tone selector);

Who has the tightest rhythm section?

Roger Glover + Ian Paice (Deep Purple) JPH + Bonzo Steve Harris & Nico McBrain (did I spell him correctly?)

A technique for artificial harmonics (+video)

actually very similar to harp harmonics, what e.g. Steve Morse does on guitar but with the thumb playing the role of the index finger (which totaly makes sense for bass guitar). Notice that "harpy" sound opposed to the "pinchy"of the pinched harmonics. Very nice; thanks - haven't thought about...

Can You Tell The Difference??? MAPLE vs. ROSEWOOD

A maple B rosewood I guessed before reading through the thread (so my opinion doesn't get disturbed;)) Anyway if I'm right, all the better. If I am wrong at least I'm in the majority it seesm ;)
