    Michael Anthony

Yeah, there is no going home again. I was a big fan in the day. I own one of his basses (NS2) so I'm biased. People are something else.

Does the name on the headstock really matter?

I think the OP is right that a better quality instrument will improve the technique of a dedicated beginner. But assuming name as a marker of that quality is an acquired taste. High quality stringed instruments can really sound like crap if played with poor technique or improperly maintained...

How long have you kept your flats on?

I have a Spector NS2 from 1989 that still has the original strings from when Michael Anthony of Van Halen brought it into the Covina Guitar Center. I have no idea what they are, but that bass has been in the recording studio a dozen times over the years as well as @ numerous gigs recently...

    Tal and Co. at Wesfest

I should have stuck to only putting up Serendipity. I got a message from Youtube that Tal Wilkenfeld asked that the 3 vids be pulled. So I deleted them. I really hope it was because the Berklee people are gearing up to release a dvd. Oh well. One would think it was a good advert for all...

    Tal and Co. at Wesfest

Good point, Ian, I will add the details for donating to Westfest on the description of the 3 youtube videos I uploaded. You put it very eloquently, this *was* a Berklee alum tribute of sorts to a talent lost too soon. BTW, I did see one pro cameraman there in front of me, so we can hope for a...

    Tal and Co. at Wesfest

It was a fairly intimate gig at the Roxy, prob less than 200 people. The sound people had it together for the TWB. Bass was pure and sweet, Noy was loud and up front like a fiery young DiMeola and what can I say about Vinny, kick thumping in my chest and sizzles up top. He brought a new feel to...

    Tal Wilkenfeld Redux...her CD

I'm looking forward to seeing her with her latest band tomorrow night. I'll give my impressions in a seperate thread. Oz Noy is Beck-like and Vinny is always a joy.

a good pick to use with bass?

I've used the stiff Wedgie rubber for fast punk Buzzcock like power pop band I've been gigging with. They worked well. No sticking or grabbing although I can see that happening with the thinner ones and on guitar. Nice loud round tone. Got them from Elderly's.

Name a song that You think every bassist likes.

    My Generation - The Who

My bass was supposedly owned by a famous person... How do I confirm it?

It's possible that the bass was comissioned in which case serial numbers would trace it to the owner. My '87 NS2 #1386 I bought in 89 belonged to Michael Anthony of Van Halen and the folks at Spector verified it for me. The bass had been requested without the preamp board and is still all...
