    Back in 1962 with a Danelectro, switched to a used 61 J Bass in 63 and traded up to a new 65 EB3, still have and use regularly

    I J Basssti l have and still play my 1965 EB3, purchased new in 1965 for $285 after getting a "credit" of $100 for trading in a 1961 J Bass I have a Fender 1964 Replica J bass bought for $2200 and a 5 String J Bass anout 10 years ago but I always drift back to the EB3...It like an "old" friend!

    Traded up my 61 J Bass for a new 65 Gibson EB3 Still have and use the EB3 but wished I kept the J Bass too Also wish I still had the Danelectro that I traded up for the J Bass

    What do you do about dead spots?

    My old 1961 J Bass had a dead spot on fret 4,5 & 6 on the G string, never could fix it with strings so I replaced it with a 1965 Gibson EB3, never had a dead spot since then

    Useless bass features

    In ‘65, Gibson used to solder the ground & shielding wires to the back of the pots, dumb idea since when the nut invariably comes loose, the soldered connections break and you get erratic sound with loud hum. For a few dollars more they should have used solder tie strips for connecting these...

    I have a 65 Gibson EB3, and I love the short scale and neck I would not ever part with mine but if you can locate one, you should buy it, you will not be disappointed Rich
