Yes, if the amplifier he plans on using is very low power. It's why we asked the OP what amplifier he planned on using and what his real world expectations were. Without this information, every opinion is nothing but a wild ass guess.

With an Xmax of <1mm, an Fs of ~80hz and a 50 watt thermal rating (approx. 30 watt mechanical rating for bass guitar WITH a HPF) it would not be a driver I would consider for anything except a vintage low powered application.

Like I said in my 1st post to this topic go to a place like Parts Express,USSpeakers and see what they have.Brands like Eminence,B+C,PRV,Selenium,Beyma,Celestion all make excellent drivers DEPENDING ON YOUR NEEDS AND WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO USE IT FOR! Call them and talk to to them and they most likely will ask you the same questions most of us have.You can do this except do your homework and do it right.

Ok I will go out on a bit of a limb here.A decent speaker for bass is the Eminence CB158.It is voiced for bass guitar so you can get away with probably not really needing a tweeter/horn for the highs.It is a USA made speaker with a 7 year warranty and in the right cab probably handle around 300 watts so it should work for most sane applications.There are 15s that handle more power and have a little higher xmax[excursion]but this speaker should work well all around within limits as it is actually made for bass guitar use.It is $167.99 at Parts Express[check out their website] with free shipping.Call and talk to to them as they have box plans for driver and a good lumberyard can saw all your panels to size to minimize your work.It you watch what your doing you should be able to build a cab from scratch with that speaker for $325 to $350.Good Luck Bruce
