Why did you quit a band?

Other than moving, or the grass is greener, the main reason I quit a band is the principal or band leader takes themselves too seriously, and doesn’t take the music seriously. Let’s face it, doing parodies of someone else’s great song is just stupid.

But do I DESERVE a "nice" bass?

From the semi-pro, anybody can spend more money - that’s the easiest part. It doesn’t substitute for study, practice, rehearsal, jamming with others, or studio recording. For most audience listening, they couldn’t tell if the new bass plays 10, 50 or 100 percent smoother, or is sonicly nicer...

How do you buy time on stage?

The only legitimate fill-space intro is Ramble On by Zed Zeppelin from their second LP. Listen underneath the acoustic guitar into: a fabulous bass riff and some flat-palm percussion setting the mood and waiting for a lyric as find as the first paragraph in a classic literary work: “the leaves...

Cracked open SMORES - crisp outside, soft inside.

There is probably no way for a humble bass cabinet owner to determine from the manufacturer a possible replacement speaker for a cabinet with an apparent blown speaker. The challenge seems overwhelming to this novice, but I’m trying to learn. Fender does not list the technical design parameters...

Cracked open SMORES - crisp outside, soft inside.

Thanks for that advice. Your challenge has given me more knowledge than any other post since I joined recently. I found an article explaining that cabinet design is more mathematical than just sticking a speaker into a cabinet - which is what I did, on the advice of one other member. Others...

Cracked open SMORES - crisp outside, soft inside.

haven’t touched it, I swear. Just surprised. I cracked this open to test a new speaker in this Rumble 115...

Cracked open SMORES - crisp outside, soft inside.

Xploring the inside of this vented cabinet and found thick foam. This is typical of S’mores, but a bass cabinet. Not sure?

What do you do when you're not playing?

Lately my hobby has been wrangling the Nine- Banded Armadillo. But this critter is a power house. Went through 3 traps until I found the proper one, but captured mom and pop, plus Baby Huey (Armageddon). Watch if you dare.

What do you do when you're not playing?

Everything I play on keys sounds like a Elton John, at least to my ears.

    Responsible use of amp power

Thanks for that bit of advice. I’m playing country in one band and classic rock in another on a short scale 4 string bass, never pushing anything. I want to play with fingertips and smooth as velvet, with only n occasional attack stance, but I want to ply at a volume that gives me the assurance...

    Responsible use of amp power

He did what I couldn’t do, he lined out to another bass speaker cabinet in his shop, and discovered the same sound effect - concluding the problem likely was in the head. After the twist test, a scratch was discovered in one of the pots, so cleaning became obviously needed, and at the end, the...

    Responsible use of amp power

Giving everyone an update from this green bass player. I took the amp and head to Momar Music in San Antonio, and at first he agreed it seemed like a blown speaker, which sounded like the 15” speaker was blowing its nose, but switching output to another speaker, it sounded awful there as well...

    Responsible use of amp power

...so, if this amp is rated 500, and I have one cab with a speaker rated at 225, does that leave room for another cab at 225.

    Humble guitar-player’s extra bass-rig folly

That’s got a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder in the center console...haha. The body is a couple of cherry floor boards from my step-father’s barn sandwiched together by my brother. Sort of a “two-piece mono-kini” if you get my drift. Used my Mexican Telecaster as a template. Finished it myself...
