    exposed music festival

My band, against my judgement, played our spot during Exposed (see linked thread). It was, as I suspected, a pay-to-play show with Mistress J never showing up, money being squandered, and no audience at all. I seriously advise that you just walk away from this "festival," but that's just my...

Knowing that you have to quit.

I've been debating posting about this for a while now. I'm currently in a gigging original metal band and am quite happy. We have quite a few shows lined up, are planning on recording (for free), and writing more material. I mesh well with everyone and am having a fantastic time with this band...

    Extra Bass in Big Band?

As a bari sax, upright, and electric player, I have to say a resounding no. Sadly, the bari parts in big band jazz usually follows along with the the lower brass instruments or occasionally with the rest of the saxophone section. The bari has a very strong timbre, one that just isn't easily...

Exposed music festival - pay to play?

From what everyone has been saying, I'm getting the general idea that it's a straight up scam. Thankfully, I contacted the lead guitarist and was quickly rewarded when he felt the same way. Especially when they're not returning phone calls, emails, and generally being as vague as possible...

Exposed music festival - pay to play?

Update: From what I'm hearing from my band mates, it's that the festival is giving us 50 tickets, no charge to us. But we have to sell at least 30 to play. Wasn't sure if this is or isn't a scam or if they just want to make sure we can draw some sort of a crowd.

Exposed music festival - pay to play?

So I've recently joined an originals metal band and was informed that we're lined up to play at the end of May at a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] for local bands. I thought "of course!" and happily have agreed to play the gig. I've looked around online and at the official site and it seems...

Double Bass how many of y'all incorporate non-standard covers in your gigs?

I'd say play whatever you want. My quintet is currently organizing a horn version for YYZ. : s

best concept album of all time

Kezia by Protest the Hero. When you can analyze an album to the same degree as a great novel, then I have to say it's amazing.

    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

So my Stagg 3/4 scale just broke last night. A few months ago, a piece of the nut chipped off, right next to the g-string and below the tuning pegs. Last night, it broke off a little bit more, just enough so that the groove where the g-string normally rests split in half and doesn't hold it up...

Joining a metal band, need some help

If you really want some good bands to look at, listen to Necrophagist and Obscura. Very tight bass playing on a fretless 6er.

Double Bass Have you tried this?

First off, I play mostly progressive and death metal. My good friend and his brother play drums and guitar and were working on a project this past summer. Nothing really took off, but now that college is in full swing, they are looking on writing more material and potentially gigging, with me on...

Weirdest name of a band you've ACTUALLY BEEN IN

Pony Party. We're a death metal band.

where did your band name come from?

My band's name came from rearranging the letters in our names. Although the original drummer has been kicked out, we still stick with Mercenary Suns.
