I wouldn't modify that bass if I were you! Those things are pretty rare, and certainly have some collector's value. If what you want is a "traditional P-bass tone", sell this one and get a "traditional P-bass". Seems the only logical way to go. To me at least. Cheers, Scapal.

Might be a bit of a late "reply", but it may be useful to others eventually? I just got one, only had a moment to plug it in, and it' s pretty loud amplified. Even with the three EQ knobs in the middle detent, and a weak battery (well that's what the warning light in the preamp says anyways)...

No you can't. If you look at pictures (Google images has a load of them) of the Plus, you'll see it has no fretboard overhang, the neck fits the pocket like the "regular" P. So putting a standard 20-fret neck on it would leave you with a short string length, and your intonation would be way off...
