Oh, I can't imagine this will get out of control: I'm pretty much satisfied with what I've already got.

I hate saying this, but you probably know anyway: You need to replace the white pickguards with tort!

TC BG-250 (1X15 "original version"). That replaced the old Fender Music Master Bass Amp I was running the Mustang through when I first got it. That'll more than hold me til I develop the competence to play in a manner that anybody would actually care to listen to.
Ditto for 4 strings and frets vs. 5 or 6 and/or fretless.

Had round wounds on it when I got it and the action was too high. Changing to flats and setting it up made a huge difference: now I really like the way it sounds and plays...it may even be my current fav. The other two basses measure 2" (E-G) at the bridge, while the SX Jazz measures a more standard 2-1/4". At first I thought that that was why it felt less comfortable to play (my thumbs are all arthritic), but after the above-mentioned changes, I realize it was just the strings and action. I'm now real happy with all three of them, actually.
To be more specific (as to your point), I guess I'd say that the SX Jazz sounds a little bit "punchier" than the other two. I like it EQ-ed pretty much in the middle: too much treble and it starts getting kinda harsh and metallic to my ear. On the downside, the pups seem to be slightly noisier (as in hum) than the others but nothing out of hand. I may yank it apart and shield the cavities and pickguard if it ever starts to really annoy me.
Keep in mind that I'm a relative newb to bass, so my frame of reference for judging all this is pretty limited.
