The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Right. Usually when I see them used, the desire is to only damp open strings.

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

There's also the muting option of using the "scrunchy" thing on the neck between your fingering hand and the nut (a la Vic Wooten). Handy thing with that is you can easily slide it past the nut when your done with it and keep playing.

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

I started my stringed instrument journey with classical guitar when I was twelve, so I cut my teeth with finger alternating. Started playing bass when I was fourteen when the school band director asked me to learn so that I could play with the school jazz band. Not a lot of picking going on with...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Great song. Furious gives a good finger workout with 16ths as well. I find it easier to play consistent 16ths with my fingers than with a pick.

60's vs. 70's Jazz bass pickups

The difference may have less to do with the pickups themselves than with the placement and body wood. The pickups in 60's and current Jazz bass are 3.6" apart (between pole pieces) and 4" apart with the 70's j basses - the bridge pickup being positioned nearly 1/2" closer to the bridge. This...

    Nobody cares about your tone....

Yes. Check out the Rush "Clockwork Angels" concert on YouTube. No cabs, no stage monitors. Geddy's bass went through a Sansamp. I think there may have been a sub somewhere on stage but that's it. Geddy's (failing) voice aside, they sounded fantastic instrumentally. My band is actually...

    Nobody cares about your tone....

And that's why I use a MicroBass II preamp... 1/4" to my amp and the sound engineer plugs into the post e.q. DI.

Help me pick the best 210's out of two ;)

I have an RS410 and an RS212. Great tone. Plenty of power handling. Rugged cabinets. Custom Eminence drivers. Great stuff!

    Rock bands with no bassists

Although many will disagree, I was never that impressed with Ray Manzarek's bass comping on the keyboard. Ponderous, repetitive and uninspired - resulting in a rather thin overall sound IMO. Having said that there's a jazz/funk/soul group up in Vermont (Soule Monde) - just a guy playing a...

What's the deal with Mark Bass amps?

Well shut my mouth LOL. That was just my observation of bass players I know personally as well as a number of the bass players MB uses to promote their gear.

What's the deal with Mark Bass amps?

And there it is. LOL As with all things tonal, it comes down to personal preference. If you're happy with it, that's what counts.

I've done a (near) 180 on maple vs. rosewood...

There's definitely something there but, as you say, it's somewhat intangible. I have both rosewood and maple. I'm sure the difference is something I experience more than anyone listening can audibly discern. Some songs and styles I prefer to play on the maple and some I prefer with the rosewood...

What's the deal with Mark Bass amps?

My observation is that most people who seem to like MB use a lot of slap and pop technique. I've used the MB 210 combo and found it difficult to get a pleasing finger style tone. Sounded great with slapping though. However, I don't use slap much so...

Markbass Compressore noisy on my board.

The compressor should be ahead of your other effects in the chain. Also, tone altering effects (chorus, envelope filters, etc.) generally sound better when routed through the effects loop of the pre-amp. My chain is: tuner, compressor, pre-amp. My octave, chorus and envelope filter (in that...
