There only seems to be one dealer for the Aguilar pickups in the UK, they're way out of my price range, the equivalent of $300. US dealers aren't allowed to ship to Europe either.

Well it's a P bass in fiesta red, with 60's hardware, tortoise shell pickguard etc. It's going to 'look' like a Pino P bass, I want it to sound as close as possible too.

That's really helpful, thank you. There are two for sale on eBay at the moment. A blue one described as a TRB 6 II, and a red one with quilted maple facing, described as a TRB6. I'm guessing from what you've said that the red one is actually a TRB1006.

I'm looking at buying a used Yamaha TRB 6. What's the difference between the TRB and TRB II basses ? Which is the better model to buy ? Looking at photos of the two it looks like one has a quilted maple facing, and a darker accent wood. Which is which ?

I think they've done what EBS did with the Reidmar, they've been honest with the specs, unlike a lot of manufacturers.

A lot of active basses can drive a pair of headphones anyway. A dedicated headphones amp is usually a better option, you can usually plug an mp3 player, metronome or drum machine in too.

I had shuttle 3 a couple of years ago. I've also owned a shuttle 6. I've currently got a TH350. In my opinion, there's absolutely no comparison. The TH350 is in a totally different league to either the shuttle 3 or 6. I have the eq practically flat on my TH350, I get a beautiful, full, warm but...

I haven't tried the TH500, but of all the micro heads that I've played through this seems the most responsive. It really seems somehow to reproduce fast flurries of notes better than any other amp. I'm using it with a single 8 ohm GS210. There's a nice kind of warmth to the sound that I like too.

That's what I generally do. This is a little different to standard amps though, with the drive, gain and master controls. They all seem to react differently according to where I have the master.

How is everyone setting the gain, drive and master controls ? I want a nice clean, articulate sound.

This is a fascinating discussion. I just spent an hour reading through this thread instead of practising. Anthony, is there any chance of you coming over to the UK any time in the future ?
