Hi all, a friend of mine is hopping across the pond from London to New York and is hoping to do a bit of bass shopping whilst there. Only trouble is he's a lefty so is wondering where has the biggest selection in stock? All suggestions gratefully recieved Thanks all Russ

I have a similar problem...:( although after about 4 months of playing a riff every day I'm still stuck on about 90bpm. Im determined not to increase the tempo unless im playing it cleanly though The song is 'Hit me with your rhythm stick' ( to see marlowedk playing how it should be done!)...

+1! try and find friends who are just a little bit more advanced than you to spur you on but not so advancd that what they are playing will bamboozle you! perhaps if youve been playing 6 months find a friend who's been playing a year... keep it informal, be upfront that they may have to be...

everyone has their own favourite starting blocks but here's my take on it... For me, songwriting is all (well 90%) about melody! I will generally hum melodies all the time until i stumble across something that sticks in my head. if i can still remember it when i get home from work etc then...

I get you, so you play cmaj scale from c to c over a cmaj drone... then c maj scale from d to d over a d minor drone to get the sound of the dorian mode into your head... from e to e over an eminor drone to get the fridgian (sorry for the spelling!;)) and onwards... Sounds like a great...

I was interested to see a few months back in Bass Player Mag they did a transcription of Stevie Wonder's Boogie On Reggae Woman and the transcriber opened the article by saying in his opinion this is the toughest bass line to play properly (if you want to nail all the inflections etc) he has...
