According to what I found, the car is a de-badged 412, which was basically a 400 with larger displacement and a few other changes.

I don't care so much for the sound of my cheap Squiers with the stock 500k mini pots, but once I change them to quality 250s and better tone caps, I do. All three of mine still have the stock pickups and I've seen no reason to change them. The pickups themselves are actually not too bad.

I've certainly gotten by on that myself, in the past. I have a fairly wide leather strap on my P bass, along with Schaller strap locks. Works well. My Jazz bass and Strat have nylon straps with Dunlop strap locks, but I am going to go to Schallers on those too.

Not being a woman, I can't comment on that, other than to say it may be a consideration for some women. As to necks and hand size, try both neck styles and see which one is most comfortable. I don't have overly large hands myself, but have no problem with a chunky P neck. If neck size ends...

I would say that topics, in and of themselves, are not divisive. But some topics do engender very strong feelings and opinions that tend to divide the people who hold to one view or the other into very strong sides, sometimes without much middle ground.

I don't see that many turn up new lately either. Most of the ones I have seen available were used and being sold on ebay and such. Why that is, I really don't know.

It's been fun for me to see some of the custom jobs in various threads, which has gotten me started now. Also nice in this thread to see a Squier restored to a near original condition.

It can take a while to get that soldering right. My first few attempts were real hack jobs, but once I learned a few small things, I got a whole lot better. Definitely a skill I am glad I added.

Definitely a great job. I used what I did because it's readily available locally. Not so waterslide paper, but if I decide at some point to revert back to a Squier logo, I may order some online and do it as you did. Very nice.
