    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

Haven't seen any for sale, but here's a link to the post on the one I made. It allows complete freedom for tilting front/back and left/right, but with the plastic clamped to the metal pin, it doesn't spin unless you turn it with intent. (it won't spin away when you play arco)...

I have been using a "foot" I made for a while now. It allows the bass to tilt/lean in any direction as freely as the simple end pin, while applying friction to rotation so it twists with some resistance. It keeps the bass quite under control. For pizzicato, you can almost get away with no...

Sixway, I'm sorry you have had the disaster with your Stagg. I bought one in very similar condition on eBay. On the bright side, you can use this as an opportunity to convert it to a 5-string. I really like having the notes down to the low B available. Some pictures of what I did are...

    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

I bought a Stagg a couple years ago with a shattered headstock. I rebuilt it as a 5-string with all new matching machines. I still have all 4 of the original machines, maybe we can work something out! -I didn't see where you are, I am in western PA, USA -srkendal

I added a low B string to mine. This works out well because it is the same interval as the other strings on the bass. I may be wrong, but I believe the low strings are usually a B and the C's are usually C extensions on the E string position.

    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

I played double bass in High School, and had not touched one since spring of 1978! I got a Stagg 2 years ago, and love it! I tend to agree with others on the thread that it doesn't quite sound exactly like the real thing, but it definitely doesn't sound like a bass guitar. The feel of the...

    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

The acoustic sound of a Stagg being played arco is very slight. Quite the same difference as when a solid body electric guitar is played without the amp. If there is a tv on in the apartment, you won't disturb the watchers, they might not even notice it.

If the sound you are getting from the speakers is clear and undistorted, then the input is not overloaded. Generally speaking the headphone output of the Stagg is quite compatible with amplified speakers for computers.

Yes, it does look like a vacuum cleaner!:crying: an approach which might be more aesthetically pleasing could involve using a round base with non-skid pads, and with a universal joint in the center like those used in socket wrench sets. I am still trying to figure out how the end pin...

Hi, For a suggestion on supporting the Stagg, take a look back a few posts, specifically at posts 269, 295 & 296. I made a "foot" which clamps onto the endpin, and allows the bass to tilt in all directions without allowing it to rotate. This has proven to feel quite natural to me. I...

Thanks for the compliment, as for a harness to make the Stagg wearable, I am afraid it would have to be counterbalanced like a steadycam unit -pretty complicated. Although there is always the mysterious strap button... perhaps it's evidence that Chinese engineers are even now working on a secret...

    Double Bass Stagg EUB megathread

I received my Stagg without the wire braces for steadying it. I made one from copper plated steel wire which I coated with heat-shrink tubing to match the bass finish. It seems ok, but I just didn't like it. Instead I have made a foot which clamps onto the endpin, allows the bass to tilt in...

The shielding procedure from Mateybass is to cure a low frequency hum when plugged into an amplifier just as you suspected. The white noise which you describe in the headphones is inherent in the audio amplifier used in the headphone circuit. (mine has it and I suspect they all do)...

I picked up a 3/4 German style bow on eBay quite reasonably. Don't forget bass rosin for the bow. You will most definitely need lots of it at first. (when the bow and strings are new and not yet coated) After that a sparse application will do.
