    I don't hate pre-aging/Relics...

Fair point. You've convinced me. PS: etymology.

    I don't hate pre-aging/Relics...

But frolic has dutch and germanic roots. Relic comes from old French and middle English. The rules wouldn't necessarily be the same. And since it's only recently become a verb (and then, mostly in very small cricles) it's not really settled yet. Sorry. Word nerd.

Also, tangentially, there is NO good way to conjugate "relic" as a gerund, or even to put it into the past tense. Relicing? Looks like you're adding lice back into something... Relicked? Keep you tongue to yourself! At least until you get deloused.

Yeah. The inspiration for this thread was sort of along those lines. It's not the WORST relic job I've seen, but it's PLENTY BAD. And somehow takes a $400 guitar up to a value of $650... Custom Aged/Relic Gretsch G5435T Electromatic Pro Jet w/ Bigsby - w/ Matching Relic'd Hard Case!

You clicked on a thread about relics just say you have no interest in them? See above re: wadded panties, I guess, huh?

But Holy CRAP, there are a lot of really terrible home attempts at it for sale on Reverb and eBay. Many of them on poly finishes.

    Why bass

Because when I was 13, all of my friends played guitar and every fledgling garage band needed, but couldn't find, a bass player. That remained true even after I showed up, but at least then they had a bass OWNER.

    bass pick opinions

I change it up, depending on my needs: everything from a nearly 20 year old felt pick to a medium Fender metal pick. But my middle-ground standard is the Dunlop Ultex series. They're stiffer than Tortex, so you can get rigidity without thickness. I like that.

    Tiniest bass amp?

I have a cheap Ampeg 1x8 combo that sounds remarkably good, but even it's too big, imo, to sit ON a desk. For that, I would (and do) just run a DI into nearfield monitors. In my setup, it passes through a mixer/interface first, but that's not wholly necessary.

Thinking of BEAD, lose the G?

I like BEAD as long as I'm playing stuff I've written, not covers. For covers, I find myself missing the G. For my own stuff, I have a pretty high threshold for idiosyncrasy. For instance, for the past month I've nearly exclusively been playing a bass tuned in fifths: DAEB. It started as a...

SOLD Warwick Thumb BO 4 String - 2002 - Made in Germany / White (Reduced)

I thought a LONGER horn was supposed to combat neck dive (by keeping the center of gravity between the strap buttons). Cool bass, though. GLWTS.
