Best Bang for Your Buck Bass Lessons (Online)

I used JamPlay years ago, and I had a pretty good experience with that. I'm trying SBL right now, but I get somewhat frustrated by all of the pre-lesson talking, sometimes show-off playing, etc., before they get into the meat of the lesson. I'm comparing these experiences to my previous...

    Harley Benton MP5

So to those owners who have been using the HB Enhanced MP-5 basses a few years, are they still good or are there issues popping up (frets, necks warping, etc.)? I've had my eye on these but am having trouble believing that a $300 instrument can be good quality. Thanks!

    Finger texture differences

When I started out playing bass I used a pick exclusively. However, along the way, I joined a Praise & Worship band and decided to learn how to finger pick. I've noticed over the past few years that my index/pointer finger is much more boney than my middle finger, so the tone is brighter when...

    NBD: Vintage Kramer XL-8 Content

I have one - bought it in the very early 80's and used it in a traveling band along with an Ibanez Musician MC924, which I also bought around 1981. I'd say the weakest part of the Kramer bass is the bridge setup - I wish each string had its own saddle instead of the octave string being shared...

    Lakland Owners Group #69

Me, too - have them in a 2003 MIM Fender Jazz and they sound delicious. That said, I'm also a huge fan of the stock pickups in my Lakland.

    Discontinued Basses- your faves

Same here, so I bought one new off the rack at the local music store in the early 80s. It's still with me.

Aguilar HC vs Duncan Apollo for 5-string Fender Jazz

Since I have a 5-string, it would be a 3-2 split, so one coil would be slightly larger than the other. Therefore, a slight amount of hum would get through. You wouldn't have that problem on a 4 or 6 string because both of the split coils would be the same size and all hum would be cancelled .

Aguilar HC vs Duncan Apollo for 5-string Fender Jazz

Ok, that is news to me. In another forum, I was told the Apollo's were split coils, end to end, like the Aguilar's. Do you know if they also have shielding under the covers?

Aguilar HC vs Duncan Apollo for 5-string Fender Jazz

I have just purchased and installed a set of Aguilar AG 5J-HC pickups into a 2003 MIM Fender Jazz Bass V with an active preamp. While they are much, much better hum-wise than the stock single coils, I’m still hearing 60-cycle hum when not playing. This is with the bass run directly into a...

What do you feel differentiates the Apollo from the Aguilar AG 5J-HC?

Yes, Slater, I have seen that one, thanks! It is a good demo.

Seymour Duncan Apollo Jazz Bass Pickups

I'm also looking at the Apollos for a 2003 MIM Fender Jazz Bass V (5-string). For me, the decision is between those and the Aguilar AG 5J-HCs. I would like to understand how the Apollos are wound -- are those two individual coils end-to-end in one housing (like the Aguilars)? I also wish there...

    Lakland Owners Group #69

Lakeland string question.... I have a stock 5502 Deluxe, 2nd owner, and I'm looking for new strings. This is the first string change since acquiring the bass I typically use D'Addario XL light round wound nickle in all my basses, but I had a set of Dunlop mediums so I thought I would try those...
