    Over valued 70's P-bass?

That is a beautiful pair of p-basses. Congrats.

I highly recommend you get your hands on one to try out and see if you like it. If you can rent one that would be ideal. The placement of the neck pickup makes it a bit awkward to slap and pluck so depending on your style of playing, it may not be for you. Obviously you can get used to...

Nice looking bass-exceot the knobs. I wonder if they switched to plastic knobs to try and eliminate interference and hum? I've read about metal knobs working like an antenna and had considered changing them out on my 5HH but I think I will just go ahead with shielding all the cavities. Good find.

Sweet! Which retailer? I was a maple guy forever but just started getting into Rosewood and ebony. Still love me a maple neck though! Must be the Canadian in me.

Thank you for the great pics! Can you post one of the way you wired the ground from each cavity and where you terminated it? Also, great maple grain pattern in that neck! Understand why you are living your bass

Oh dang! Mine does that too but I never thought about it being a warranty issue. Doh. Too late now- I've had the bass for 3 or 4 years

Oh sure, let's say they release specials in that beautiful honey burst. Then what? Will I need one with rosewood, ebony and maple fretboard and possibly a fretless ebony? One each in 4 string plus 5 string. May as well call them pokemon basses - gotta collect them all! This would be my dilemma.

My fret edges were a mess. I needed to file them. The profile was ok but they were sharp and got worse this winter with fret sprout. I bought a fret file and some 4009, 6000, 8000 grit paper, and low tak tape. Fixed the issue fine. Ebony fretboard. No issue with my fretboard too though...

Wait, I thought they were pleked at the factory?

I can't give you a definitive answer but I can contribute this having removed the preamp from my 5hh. The pots all read the same and have the same resistance ratings so the tone differences are most likely not coming from the preamp, only from the pickups. If I get a chance to take readings...

Online Bass Lessons - Scott's Bass Lessons?

I've tried both SBL and BassBuzz. I couldn't get into SBL although that could be where I was at in my life at the time so that was a waste of money. BassBuzz is fantastic. I'm not a beginner but I put my ego aside and started at lesson one. I've learned a lot even from the early lessons so...

That's a beauty collection for sure but you may have too many. Ship one off for scientific experiments to my "lab". (Ok, I don't have a lab but I'd raise one for you all the same).

    Over valued 70's P-bass?

That's a nice looking bass! Thanks for the input. I was watching a Carol Kaye interview where she talks about using p-bass and how they weren't really good instruments and I just about abandoned the pursuit but the dream is alive!
