EBMM StingRay Special Club

My fret edges were a mess. I needed to file them. The profile was ok but they were sharp and got worse this winter with fret sprout. I bought a fret file and some 4009, 6000, 8000 grit paper, and low tak tape. Fixed the issue fine. Ebony fretboard. No issue with my fretboard too though. Plays great and even better now that the edges are smooth.

That's annoying for sure. Luckily my fret edges were very smooth.

Still my favorite bass but I would love for them to increase their QC a bit

I hope I can clear up a few things here. Special was added on at the last minute for SEO reasons. We originally wanted them to be called "Stingrays", but after listening to our retailers we found that would be not wise.

We've been using roasted wood since 2010 and we think that the two main factors are looks and tone. It smells pretty good too. :) The roasted necks are just as good if not a little bit better than non roasted stability wise (in our experience).

Hey Scott - any sneak peaks for NAMM this year? I’m personally hoping you’re either adding a SLO model to the lineup or will at least do more limited runs of them. I missed them the first time around and am excited for a 1.5 nut on a Special. Also hoping honey burst might be making a return soon :)

Chances are I had already shown mine but I am too lazy surfing pages now LOL

I always liked the Charcoal Sparkle finish, but I didn't realize just how pretty it is until seeing one in the local Guitar Center. I'm all about the bursts, but I have to admit that the sparkle finishes Musicman has been putting out recently are really nice.

The picture doesn't do it justice, it's astonishingly beautiful

I was on a business trip and came across a used SRS 5HH in charcoal sparkle. Should have bought it because it was sweet, but I was also of the mindset that I don’t NEED a new bass. That said, if EBMM comes through and releases a honeyburst 5HH then I’ll have no choice lol.

I so wish they would. My honeyburst SR5HH is a 2007, so it has the preamp and ceramic pickups from the Sterling 5. But to be able to get a Special in that finish … :woot:

It’s of course my personal opinion, but I think it’s the prettiest finish they did.
