EBMM StingRay Special Club

My ceramic honeyburst is rosewood, so a maple fretboard on a honeyburst Special would be fantastic.
...'specially if it had a matching headstock!

Oh man, I’m finally in the club. After trying sometime to come up with a used 4H special in either all black (w/ebony fingerboard), or my first choice, the burnt ends, I finally snagged one on the classifieds here. These are hard to come by in Canada right now.
Waiting eagerly to get this into my hands.
Anyone know where to get aftermarket pickguards for one of these? There’s a gazillion classic SR pickguards out there, and the music man store won’t ship one (or, curiously, a truss rod tool) to Canada (thanks EB, nobody up here but us Canadians…)

Really looking forward to getting this. Dipped my toe into the world of very light ash body active basses with a jazz deluxe a few years ago, but just couldn’t bond with it, but definitely saw the appeal. Hoping this one scratches that itch and works for me. Sub 8 lbs too. I love my ol’ heavy jbass, but something light will be most welcome.
Does anyone’s stingray special make a slight hum noise when you are not touching the strings? When you touch anything metal on the bass i.e the strings or bridge the humm goes away.
I have had this issue with many guitars in the past and adding copper shielding fixed the issue but I would not expect this from a high end bass like the special. Just curious if anyone else noticed this with there stingray specials?

I don't think I posted this here but I had the same issue, especially in faux single coil mode. I contacted EBMM and they had me send my bass in and they replaced the pickup and it was totally fixed. They said the pickup was faulty. Mine was under warranty so it was free
Oh dang! Mine does that too but I never thought about it being a warranty issue. Doh. Too late now- I've had the bass for 3 or 4 years
Well I added copper shielding to the control cavity and pickup cavities and ran wires to connect them all. Dead silent now.
I am shock because there was no shielding paint anywhere in my stingray special. Oh well it’s fixed now.

Mine was actually a little different as the buzz got really bad when you touched the pole pieces.
Minor issue but glad I got it fixed under warranty.

Here are some pics of the shielding I had to do to silence the hum I got when not touching the strings. Other than the non existent shielding job it came with I really love my new bass now. I can’t believe how quiet it is now. Zero hum!

Thanks. I like the neck as well. I soldered a wire from each pickup cavity to the control cavity. The rest was just overlapping copper shielding on the pickguard and around the top edges. I did have the copper shielding touching the ground to the output jack.
That's how I have my 2014 2-band set. But, what I've found is that being able to set it that way is at least somewhat dependent upon string gauge. For years and years I used Fender 45-65-85-105 nickel plated steel (my favorite strings don't judge me), and if I set the pickup to 6/32 it would warble on the A string up above the 12th fret. Absolutely drove me nuts, and I had to lower the pickup way down to get rid of it. It wasn't until recently that it occurred to me that EBMM ships Stingrays with 45-65-80-100, and that maybe the lighter gauge on the lower strings is what enables them to set the pickup that high without getting the warbling. Sure enough, I tried Super Slinkies for the first time since buying the bass and set the pickup back up to 6/32 and it sounds great. I don't think there's any warble, it can be tough to tell sometimes but it's certainly nowhere near what it would be with the 45-105's. I have that punchy, higher pickup tone back again. My Ray has always been a bit thuddy since the pickup was so low. Unfortunately, lowering the pickup is also what fixes the weak G string, so that's back now too lol. Oh well!
