What is a "blemish" worth to you?

Sooner or later I will put a ding on it anyway.

    Flat shim too high?

Thin angled shim will give you more lift at the bridge, than a thicker full flat shim. It's geomtry.

Adjust truss rod now or wait for weather to change?

My fender necks move if I leave the windows open too long. I much prefer having the TR adjuster at the headstock. I don't care if the premium fenders all have the TR nut at the heel.

Is it the instrument or the player?

Do what works for you. No need to get worried.

Adjust truss rod now or wait for weather to change?

It's there to be used, just like tuning pegs. All it takes is a slight turn to compensate for weather. It's not like you have to crank the rod every time.

    Cost vs Common Sense?

Scott could play cheap basses and still sound good, but it doesn't really apply to me, so I'll stick to my cheap and practical basses.

    New JB (Squier ‘77) Day

After my honeymoon with the squier jazz, my AM std jazz with cs 60s pickups sounds more "refined". Squier hardware isn't all that bad. I'd do the pickups first, but I'm leaving mine as is. I like that it's a squier, and want to keep it that way.

Is Squier coming out with anything new in 2018?

Squier is here to stay. MIM standard basses cost twice as much as VM squiers. MIM used to be what squier is today.

    Keep Black Bass Swirl Free

Only guarantee is if you don't touch it. You already know this from owning other black basses...

    A guitar is a guitar!

I once referred to my bass as a guitar in front of my friend, and he wouldn't stop saying "but that's a bass." Yeah, it's a bass-guitar. It's not a bass trombone. It's not a bass drum. It's a bass guitar. It's still an electric guitar.
