I have been flying to gigs many of times, both with my bass checked in or as a carry-on. Never did I detune the bass or touch the truss road and never did I have to make any adjustments after arrival.

Carry-on suitcase with exterior pockets. Fits all my cables incl. extension cords, surge protectors and my guitar stands, has wheels and a pull-out handle. Tools go into the exterior pockets.

I would go with option B. I have 2 Sadowsky NYCs but used to fly with a Japanese Sadowsky Metro in a Mono gig bag. Unless there was space in one of the closets, I would ask for a pink tag and leave it at the door with the strollers and pick it back up at the same spot when I exited the plane...

All I would want is a small removable battery cover within the existing rear control cavity cover. Tool free would be great, but I am not greedy and would accept one or two screws. No changes whatsoever required within the control cavity. I have thought more than once about building my own...

Yes you can, done it many of times. Remove all screws, then lift up the back of the pickguard so that it clears the pickup and then slowly pull the guard towards the bridge. Install in the opposite direction.

I used Schallers for many years but for whatever reason the nuts on the beltside would frequently work themselves loose, especially on thicker leather straps. I switched to Dunlop Dual Design Strap Locks on all of my basses and never looked back.

Agreed. Either that, or tint the fretboard as well. The difference in tint between maple headstock and maple fretboard on this bass ultimately drove me to buying a MIA Geddy Lee, which has a maple fretboard with pearl blocks without this optical flaw.

No regrets whatsoever. My first bass was a 1980 MIA Fender Precision with a neck gap so wide, you could stick a quarter in it.
