Check around on the Fender site, I know you'd be able to find the approx birth date of the bass but they probably have info on the original design of that model which may be helpful.

That does seem pretty far back but I could not say why that is. In looking at mine. My E is the furthest back and G is the most forward. Also intonated on multiple tuners. I guess check your neck to see if there is anything that may affect the distance between fret 12 and the nut. Good Luck!
