I looked on the Emi sight and saw nothing in their bass drivers that was 8 inch. I will try Ampeg but wonder how fun that will be for older equipment?

I picked up an Ampeg Classic Series 4x8 at a local Goodwill for 89.99. Nice shape but I got it home and one of the 8 inchers is a fart machine. You can see it excurd much farther out than the other three along with the buzz tone. It sounds really good otherwise and its size and sound really suit...

Yamaha +1. I forgot I have a BB400 that is more P than a Fender P bass. Needs some care as it has been a little modified. There is also BB300 close by at a pawn but they want just a hair too much. So Yamaha is another solid bet for sure.

Fenders from mexican to japan are a good bet. I have to say Peavey. I have a later Peavey Fury I got with a hardcase and it is the height of bang for the buck. $140 bucks well spent. Maybe something Danelectro if you like that flavor. my Longhorn represents more excellent value.

Sunn 200s 2x15 with JBL K140's and Ampeg V4B. This plus the Rickenbacker is awesome. I have an 8x10 but like the Sunn cab better.

The .40 set is very light. You may have to have higher action to not get the rattle and buzzes. The Fender probably just had a larger gauge set of strings on it. I like lighter strings but all basses are different and react to different gauges of strings in their own way. You didn't bust...
