Who's rocking two fifteens, no tweeters?

I definately found that to be the case with the Mesas.
Blocking the port didn't effect low end response much, but you sure could hear the air coming out of the ports with only two of them.

Simple question for my situation, then...I'm going to be building a 2x15 in a modified TL-606 cabinet using Eminence Kappalite 3015's. I'm going to increase the height of the ports by 1" according to passinwind's suggestion, but maintaining the overall cabinet dimensions.

Port cover or no? I'm thinking the drivers would be better suited without the port covers. I'll probably build them anyway, while I'm at it.

...If someday I get rid of the SM-900 in favor of a preamp and separate power amps I'll probably put the electronic crossover in the circuit just to get that last bit of performance out of restricting the respective cabinets to the preferred frequency range of the drivers...

For your situation I'd recommend the Yamaha PB-1 preamp from the 80's. It has separate crossovers for low and high so you can overlap frequencies as much as you want. Both crossovers have a range of 100 - ~3k. There's also a full range out. So you could cut everything above 1k on the LF and run the 3015 either full range or cut everything below 100hz. You can find these for $100 - 150 and they sound really good. I keep coming back to mine.

By the way I'm using a Mesa Diesel 2x15 as my main cab lately. It has 3015 drivers in it. Weighs in the 80-90lb range. Lots of low-mids. Best sound to weight ratio I've ever had.

And I mean hot, its been over a hundred all this week, so finishing the build in my uninsullated garage was a sweat fest. On the other hand, the oil base paint dries real fast.

Port size is enlarged 1". Sound is really nice! Now I can get two 15's into the back of the Corolla, something that wasn't going to happen with a 2-15 cab. I can take one or both and do the job.

Sometimes I don't connect the bottom one until later in the gig, when volumes have come up a bit.

Same here, though I rarely need or use both.

Never owned or needed a cab with a tweeter.

I have been rocking 2 15's with my SWR700 for years and have no plans on changing anything. I play a 5-string, heavy on the low end and theres no mud. no mud at all.

Close to a Travis Bean, its a Kramer 450B circa 1976. My first bass, now a fretless, hot rodded with stacked humbucker J pups, bart preamp, wilkerson bridge, and TI flats.
Still weighs a meaty 13+lbs.
Too bad I sold the Sound City 150 head.

My first rig back around 1980, I bought together with the Kramer:

A Kustom roll and pleated head and cab, black, and you guessed it; 2-15's.

I use it at any gig that I am setting up on a hollow or wooden stage. It's piece of mind more than anything, I guess, but it does isolate the speakers from the stage and eliminates any unwanted vibrations.

Hi guys,

I recently used a 215 beaten up 1980's Trace Elliot rig and I can honestly say it destroyed ANYTHING I've ever heard or played with including an Ampeg 810 stack.....

Defintely the way to go for that "sub bass" feel!
