Who's rocking two fifteens, no tweeters?

Here's my set-up with 2x15 ..... each box is loaded with 3015 ...just got my amp back out of the shop, had them check it out and had the power tubes changed out and had the bias reset for the new power tubes ..... the sound with the 3015's and this amp is really sweet sounding

I have had so many bass amp rigs that I would be embarrassed to list them all. And I always end up coming back to 15's. I had a pair of Bergie HT115s (great sounding cabs!!). I always kept the tweeters turned completely off.

The Reeves 1x15 cabs that will be coming out soon will not have any tweeters. I plan to go with a pair of those to hook up to my Reeves Custom 225 bass amp head.

I am also having Fargen build me a bass rig with a pair of 1x15 cabs, no tweeters.

Dang! You ever consider stacking those babies vertically, with the drivers all lined up in a single plane? That stack would go way tall, and take up less floor space as well... :hmm:

Yeah, can't wait to stack them someday, should be almost 7ft. In reality, they rarely see each other - one lives at home and travels to shows, the other stays at the rehearsal space. Sometimes I throw a 210 on top for loud & outdoor shows, or VERY RARELY bring them both with 10s on top of each, with a combination of GK 400rb, 1001rb & mb2-500 pushing the bunch for utter insanity.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but does anyone know where I can find metal grills for a cabinet this size? Everything I find online is too small.

Also, www.reliablehardware.com makes custom grills to your dimensions. They have a few different grill 'shapes' and you can determine overall size and add a flange or bend at the edges for a speaker offset.

Also, Dan is a great vendor. Helped me a lot with this:

...even though I used simple budget grilles, since they're exactly what I had in mind for my build.

When I was gigging, my main cab was a homebrew 2x15 with a pair of JBL E140's in it (about 10 cubic feet, port tuned to 35hz).

Nothing could overdrive those speakers, even a borrowed (once) SWR 800W head sounded completely clean all the way to clipping through it (verified by standing outside the house with the guitard playing my bass inside).

But it was a better subwoofer than it was bass guitar speaker due to the smooth freq. response you tend to get out of JBLs. Also the cab was a little too big and I had the port tuned a little low. Would have been great for a low B tho.

So a 2x15 can work but generally only if you're really committed to low frequencies and have a strong back. I've never heard anything that can match JBL drivers for effortless low distortion low freq. reproduction either....

See that Barefaced 2x15" above? It weighs under 50lbs and has good response up to 4kHz. And you'd need a 3x15" with E140s to get close to the LF output!

Well I wouldn't use the JBLs (if they even still made the E140) for bass amp duty again anyway (tho for hi-fi subwoofers, JBL is the only thing I'd consider using).

A pair of Neo 15's like the ones you can get from Carvin would probably be a lot better....

I still find smaller speakers like 10's to give a clearer sound, tho.

Once I had a Sunn 215BH cabinet -- 2 15s in a rear-loaded horn configuration. Drove it with a Marshall 100w lead head. No mud at all, even using my old EB-3 on varitone position 1 ("mudbucker" only with high-end choke.) Now I use 2 115 combo amps stacked up, each with a horn.

If I ever decide to build a cabinet, I think it will be a reproduction of the 215BH.
