I have two 2x15's with no tweeters. Both Greenboy Dually cabs, Eminence 3015 and Faital loaded. Both have plenty of high end detail, I tend to keep my treble around noon on my MB800 with them. The Faitals have a bit more high end. I'm actually selling the Emi one right now, though not because it's too dark, just don't need two anymore and I like the other Faitals just a smidge more.

So I'd say it really depends on the individual speakers/cab. In fact most 2x15's I've played in the past weren't muddy sounding.

My Ampeg rig is a PF800 with two BA115 amps (which have been re-wired to be used as either standalone combo amps or as extension cabs) with the tweeters disconnected. The OEM 4 Ohm speakers have been replaced with 8 Ohm Kappalite 3015 speakers.

I have an old (but barely-used) Markbass CL152 (“Classic” 2x15) which I bought cheap ‘cause it was damaged in shipping (I fixed it) and it weighs only ~73lbs. If it were heavier I wouldn't have bought it-- I still put casters on it, tho…

I do have the compression driver on, but it sounds good without it.

I never, ever use two 15s and no tweeter. Four fifteens and no tweeter does happen sometimes, with good results: Acoustic 408 cabinet.
