Yes, I believe it was a $400 option. I have an sb-1 with blue bowling ball finish. It only lasted a year or two because it was expensive and chips quite easily. Mine has some dime to quarter size chips in the finish.

I could be wrong, but I worked at Taylor for five years. I saw literally thousands of pieces of mahogany and hundreds of pieces of Koa. Especially the close up shots of the grain look like mahogany. I don't recall seeing Koa that porous.
Oh yeah, and some of the buzzing and rattling is a function of the cabinet itself. Speakers won't fix that. Make sure everything is tight too. All the chassis and speaker screws and such.
