The technical bassist. Old school or new school?

Sometimes when I'm hungry I just want a fat juicy cheeseburger with lettuce tomato and mayo. I've had thousands and will have thousands more. Thats how I look at playing bass, sometimes the audience wants simple fat grooves or dramatic exciting driving lines(I'm a huge Maiden fan) so I don't...

Ever play in an Iron Maiden tribute/cover band?

I havn't but I've been going over all the old Maiden stuff "proffesionaly", with an eye towards getting in a band if not only Maiden, other stuff like it. Yeah the 2 finger part is mostly very phisically hard (I know the tunes allready) but I'll experience breakthroughs and am starting to feel...

Whats the best bass you can get for 600 $?

Definitly classic metal was all done on "normal" 4 string passive basses from the usual makers (there wasn't much else) same with hair metal and early thrash, BC rich, Charvel might be metal brands, but they are functionally similar to fenders (I have a Charvel PJ my favorite bass ever)...

I screwed up Mustang Sally at a blues jam!!!!

Thanks, the funny part is I've handeled lots of crazy 12 bar variations thrown at me, like a stormy monday with a sharp 4, various stops, intro's, turnarounds etc, but something about the 24 vs 12 bar I just couldn't get my head around during the tune, and I kept going back to the 12 bar haha! I...

I screwed up Mustang Sally at a blues jam!!!!

Actually I had never heard Mustang Sally played at the blues jams I've been going to and mostly know about it from this forum as a song lots of people get tired of playing. Well I didn't know it was a 24 bar blues song (or even that there were 24 bar blues songs) so that was the problem, as you...

Sprained my wrist, hitting the road in 2 weeks...

Not to scare you, but get an Xray 1 year ago I fell off my bike, thought I had a sprain but a month later got an Xray and had a fractured scaphoid (often mistaken for sprains) surgury, screw and 6 months of rehab, but apparently if you wait too long healing might not happen, the bone will die...

Unusual phobia of odd time signatures

Have you guys thought about your potential audience or are you just jamming for fun at this stage?, just throwing this out there and half kidding but do you want actual girls at your shows or all guys in Rush t shirts air drumming? Phobia means an unreasonable fear, maybe your drummer has a...

Trace Elliot 1115 Combo, GP11 pre amp, any thing to look out for

I'm a guitarist getting back into bass, last time I had a bass I had a TE 715 SMC combo, which was I was very happy with. Now, they are too much $$$$ and I was going to settle for something cheaper, but stumbled across a 1115 combo for $199 I see they are older vintage, any reliability...

    SR basses made in Japan

A decent generalization is that the higher model numbers (e.g. I had a 2001 SR885 and it was MIJ.) will usually be MIJ prior to around 2000-2. Thanks, that should help narrow them down quite a bit "Custom Made" would be to much $$$$ any ways. I might just buy this one I tried and maybe try...

    SR basses made in Japan

Oh sorry, I meant historically I'm looking for a used one. This one was $200 and was great quality which is a great deal. I am a Jackson guitar fan, were I picked up my MIJ bias, but a search through this forum shows a similar view from bassists.
