Help & Opinions Needed: New Gig (Duo)

I play in a bass-and-guitar duo, and we run a larger Bose system for song ang guitar with good result. For bass i usually play through a ToneHammer 500 and one or two 112 speaker cab. I'm not happy with bass through the Bose, the defining mids gets lost imho.

    Restaurant Rigs and Gigs

I turn 50 soon and is also fortunate enough to have gone from bigger rock gigs to smaller restaurant style gigs with all the perks the OP describes - no late nights/early mornings, no backbreaking PA subs etc. Nowadays I mostly play in a bass-and-guitar duo for 50-200 people with a broad...

    Geddy Lee's best tone?

I love all of his different sounds pre-Test for Echo, but my absolute favourite is Hemispheres - not too clanky and not too slick, with a great gnarly bite.

The saga continues: the legendary 'Farting During a Show' Fart II Thread

I've done some serious on-stage farting, but my best fart memory is from my childhood. It was in 4th grade and I was having my favorite for lunch at the school caf: minced liver beef. I think i still have the school record for most liver beefs chugged in, and I got really bloated. Later that...

    Show your Pedaltrain juniors!!!

Signal chain: tuner-compressor-octaver-od-envelope-phaser-chorus-preamp. Powered by a Fueltank Chameleon - it took some fiddling and curses to fit it under the board. On the preamp spot I switch between a VTDI and a Tonehammer pre depending on what sounds I need for the gig/session. Going 100%...

    THE SYNTH BASS THREAD

I use an old Novation Basstation rack and and a small:ish midi clav when I need to play keyboard bass live, it sounds pretty good. At home and in the studio its all software nowadays.

    Pet Peeves, let's hear them.

I used to work as a communications officer at a big governmental branch here in Sweden, and I talked to a regional county governor on the phone about press strategies while sitting on the toilet doing a nasty no.2. If you gotta go you gotta go, it's not may fault that he called at a bad moment ;-)

Hybrid bag / case for mini-heads

I use a very well padded, small:ish laptop backpack. It works like a charm, with lots of room for other stuff. It's kind of modular too. Personally I really like the backpack format, I have that on my back, bass gigbag over a shoulder, pedalboard case in one hand and a 112 in the other. Not a...

    Talk about your basses...

I've sold off reduntant stuff and only kept the 3 basses I actually use: Hi quality allparts J with handwound pups etc., passive fourstring: My Jazz with rounds. Offwhite, turtle pg, rosewood board. Fender CIJ P57RI: My P with flats. Offwhite, fakebronze pg, maple board. Sandberg JM5 Supreme...

    The BOOOOSH

I usually play "You can leave your hat on" un-BOOOSHed, but this thread got me inspired - at tonights rehearsal I will try to execute a perfect, slow, fullbar BOOOSH at each chorus ending break. I got the mono- and dual-style quick'n'funky BOOOSH down good, but with this slow'n'smooth soul...

How do You power your pedals?

I've been using a Fueltank Chameleon to power my board for a few years to the same effect. All 9V exept Tonehammer pre at 18V, no problems at all and dead quiet.

Where do you stand on stage?

We're 6 people in my main cover band. Me to the left of the drummer, keys to the right. Frontstage its leadguitar left, singerbabe middle, singer-/rythmguitar dude right. When it's time to rock it out in front I usually team up with the lead guitard for a few samples of worn but rehearsed...

Ever regretted not buying a bass?

In the early eighties I was offered by an old blues guy to buy a -64 jazz, really worn and defretted, for 400 SEK, that's like 65$. I turned it down, because it was "too ugly" >:-/ Young = incredistupid

Anyone moved away from bothering with a B-string?

I still have a good active J 5:er for those moments, but after 25 years of strictly 5 strings I'm back to passive, vintagey 4-stringed J's and P's. Since I don't play neither gospel nor modern metal 4 strings is enough for 99% of what I do. GASing for a 5-string passive P though, to keep a...
