Ever regretted not buying a bass?

Watched a white/maple '85 Peavey Patriot on eBay, finally placed a bid, but was outbid by a couple of bucks. Wish I had bid a bit higher, because I haven't seen another white/maple Patriot since then.

A pawnshop near me was selling a Patriot with the exact same combination a few months ago for $200 (might have been January or February because it was still cold), but it was gone the last time I went in there. There was a Geddy Lee at the same place and time as the Patriot, but it had no price tag, and it's gone now.

They currently have a Surf Green Mark Hoppus (older model, non-reverse pickups) for $250, but it has a crack near the neck and I'm broke. If I could come up with the cash though, I'd definitely pull the trigger on that.

I've recently fallen in love with the Flying V shape (after I acquiring an Epiphone Flying V - high quality too!) and want to get a Flying V bass. The old Korina Flying V bass combines classic Flying V with bass.
Anyone else regretted not buying a bass in the past?

Ugh, I came across this thread LOOKING for that natural finish Flying V. I was hemming and hawing over that exact bass when suddenly it wasn't available anymore, and now I'm really regretting my indecision. I feel your pain.
If anyone has a natural finish Korina Flying V they're looking to get rid of...

Man I had so many chances to buy a Rumblefish for less than $500. Now I can't even find one to buy. For example.

I tend to like esoteric stuff. Most of it is no longer made so in general, most of my regrets in gear have been from not buying, rather than from buying.

Yes, an old vintage Ric bass for super cheap. Very resonant piece of wood. I was a guitarist at the time and hadn't switched over to bass yet.

In about 1986, a music store where I hung out had a blonde USA Charvel bass that sat in there for months. The price finally dropped to 399. I actually had the money to buy it, but it didn't stay long enough for me to pull the trigger. One of the best basses I ever played.

$799 Rickenbacker 4002 back in 1997-98. I knew at the time I should have just put it on the card. Checkered binding and everything.

At one of the pawnshops I frequent, they had a late 70's white/black Rickenbacker 4001 bass for $1000. I had the money, but I was really saving my money to find a good guitar. I waited about 2 wks. and decided I NOW wanted the Ric and could probably talk the guy down to about $700 or so. Anyway, when I got there it was gone and he said he sold it to someone for $600 out the door. I think that bass in the shape it was in was at least worth $1500 or so. This is the ONLY killer bass that's slipped through my hands in the last 8 or so yrs. I vowed to never pass on another killer bass again,and I haven't.

Vintage ibanez violin bass for 30USD like 7 years ago. I saw at some pawn shop in the middle of no where and should have gotten it but that was before I began collecting vintage ibanezes. If I come across it again no doubt it will be mine.

There was a killer Mike Lull TC-4 in Candy apple Red at the store where I work. it's probably the most expensive 4 string that Mike Lull makes (except for the Jeff Ament Signature bass) so I hesitated, and hemmed and hawed... I nearly put a deposit down twice, then a very wise customer bought it right out from under my nose!

I was heart broken, in my mind it was my bass! Hopefully we get other TC-4's in that feel and sound as perfect as that one did. It was a very, very insane axe. (I am a non-commission, part time employee) In fact I don't make enough to be able to afford TC-4's, but I'll get one soon enough!

Any number of Ric copies going for under $350 that I've seen on craigslist and ebay. Hell, I've seen a couple recently go for $150, but I always see the ad after the bass is already gone.

I've got $350 locked away for one though, so it's just a matter of time...

So far "the one that got away" hasn't happened in basses. It's happened a few times with drums. I purposely try to keep funds available for that "gotta have it" purchase, just in case. After I buy something I start replentishing the fund and hope that another "gotta have it" bass or drum doesn't pop up.

Yes and dont laugh...Its 1980 and I buy a pelham blue 65 Tbird IV for 400.00 at we buy in NYC. Richie Friedman who is still one of my good friends takes me across the street to show my a korina explorer bass, 1 of 1. 2000.00 firm. This is more than a burst! This bass sold for like 750k a year or 2 ago.... Keep in mind colored tbirds and Jbasses were 3-400.00 at the time..

A couple times. It sucks I was not able to buy them, however later down the road I was kind of glad I did not get too into it with them and helped me appreciate what I have more. Plus if I did not have the money well that just ended it right there and I am a "if I don't have the money I don't get it" type of guy with finances. For ME use of credit cards and such is for emergencies only, not leisure items.

Just a couple weeks ago I passed up a Korean Danelectro Longhorn in red. I was a little more than I wanted to pay but it was in immaculate condition and apparently the red was a pretty rare color. I ended up getting a new tube guitar (please don't kill me) amp. Buyers remorse I guess. As soon as I get the amp off layaway I'm going to see if I can put a down payment on the bass... if its still there.

In the early eighties I was offered by an old blues guy to buy a -64 jazz, really worn and defretted, for 400 SEK, that's like 65$. I turned it down, because it was "too ugly" >:-/ Young = incredistupid
