Pet Peeves, let's hear them.

Another pet peeve is that everything is still built with either metric or standard sized screws and bolts, so if, for example, I want to buy a set of allen wrenches, I have to buy two. If I buy a socket set I have to buy two sets. And I still run across machines built with a mix of metric and standard, so I have to have both tool sets on hand to work on it.

that tends to get my goat as well

speaking of "gets my goat," a pet peeve of mine is when people pass on folk etymologies as if they were real. Usually told very authoritatively as well. Especially when the real etymologies are very easy to find :D

Women that emphasize wanting nothing more than having children.

Got ditched after 6 months because I didn't want bankruptcy in her goal to one-up her cousin who has six kids and 7 dogs by having 7 kids...

FML.

Does she already have six?

People who put animals in clothes.

A literal pet peeve. LOL

People who bring their cell phones up on stage during a gig. I have actually been in a band situation where a guy was checking his text messages BETWEEN SONGS, and another situation where a guy called his wife on stage BETWEEN SONGS. Sorry but that is beyond lame.

Save it for the breaks, boys. There's nothing that can't wait 45 minutes. If you're waiting on something that much more important than the gig, you probably shouldn't be playing the gig.

I actually had a drummer take a call from his wife DURING a song. They argued about the dishwasher or something while he continued to play with one hand. A few songs later, his wife called again, phone rang loudly during my solo in "Black Orpheus", and they talked loudly as the audience looked on incredulously. He was the" leader" and figured he was able to do whatever he wanted. He actually fired me later that year for being "unprofessional" because I was unwilling to cut short a trip with my wife in order to be back in town TWO DAYS before a scheduled gig.

I have to many to count so... here are just a few.

Pronouncing nuclear "nuke-yuh-ler". Look at the spelling. It's "nuke-lee-ar".

Saying "an historian" or "an historic moment" instead of "a historian" or "a historic moment". People who do this will argue that it's correct, and maybe it is, but I don't care. It's pretentious and annoying. Stop it.

This sort of behavior automatically calls into question the mental "togetherness" of the person saying it.. Everybody knows "an" is followed by a word that begins with a vowel and "a" prefaces a word beginning with a consonant.......it's not rocket science, but apparently to "less than adequate", spell-check dependant individuals, it is. ....

One of our tech support analysts was on the phone with a customer while he was sitting on the toilet.

-Mike

I used to work as a communications officer at a big governmental branch here in Sweden, and I talked to a regional county governor on the phone about press strategies while sitting on the toilet doing a nasty no.2. If you gotta go you gotta go, it's not may fault that he called at a bad moment ;-)
