Best gear I purchased in 2022

I bought an Orange Crush Bass 50 12" combo amp, and will be doubling it up with another one next month. I found it to be the best sounding combo amp on the market.

    Official Orange Club II

I am getting ready to buy a second Orange Crush Bass 50 combo amp, which will give me 100 watts thru 2-12's (stacked). It will also give me fuller sound at very low volume in my small apartment, and place the top driver at ear level in my playing (sitting) position. Do you'all think I'm...

    Your Go-To Short Scale?

My go to shortscale is one that I had to put a little of work into. It's a Squier Jaguar SS with Bartolini 8S pickups (Jazz disconnected, with correct P wiring), and a set of GHS Precision Flats. It wasn't complete tonally until I added an Orange Crush Bass 50 combo amp. The goal was to...

    Dialing in your tone

Well, I have a Squier Jag SS with Bartolini 8S P pickups (conventional P wiring) and GHS Precision Flats, and spent years looking for the right amp to achieve the right sound from it. My Hartke head and Eden cab were too sterile, and my Fender Rumble 150 had too dry of a midrange, leading to a...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Yah, me too. Don't like them.

Should I bu this squier vm ss bass to fix up?

I would look for a guitar pickup with a full, powerful bass and midrange, but with a relatively smooth and even output to counterbalance the scale and tonewood issues.

Should I bu this squier vm ss bass to fix up?

I would just lightly sand and paint the affected area's myself. Soft wood is very difficult to work with. There are several ways that you can customise the look of it. If you decide that you don't like the sound of it, I can help you to find the sound that you are looking for.

marshall super bass: can you get that mel schacher fart?

I read that he was using one in the studio. you can clearly hear it on Pluribus along with his modified Jass bass. The P-bass may have been introduced in some of the shows in '72, but I believe that We are an American band was the first time it was used in the studio. I witnessed him using...

marshall super bass: can you get that mel schacher fart?

It's likely that he didn't use a fuzz box during their West era ('68 to '70). But the cleaner amps they used later needed a little help. This would explain its absence.

marshall super bass: can you get that mel schacher fart?

You completely misrepresented everything I said! He did use the Big Muff on several of their studio albums, but not live as far as I know. I have used one for decades dialed in just above the threshold of audibility (just as he did) which doesn't affect our bottom end. E Pluribus Funk is the...

Should I bu this squier vm ss bass to fix up?

Agathis is not a wood that is suitable for clear finishes. It's quite soft, and doesn't look good. It is also difficult to get good sound from.

Bass Players that make you go "WOW"!

Geddy Lee and Chris Squire have always done it for me.

Your 3 most influential bass players?

If you could only pick 3, who would they be? Mine are Dusty Hill, Geddy Lee and Mel Schacker. If I had to pick a 4th, it would be Chris Squire, with John McVie given honorary mention.

marshall super bass: can you get that mel schacher fart?

The earliest amps were modified Dynaco's. But it wasn't long before they were using more powerful amp modules (SUNN?). But by '72, they were using full SUNN headamps.
