Should I get a dedicated compressor

I like using a compressor but the fact is I have not been using mine lately and I’m hardly going crazy without it. Truthfullly, my must have bass effect, and my only must have bass effect is EQ. I find it invaluable, much more so with bass than with guitar.

    Why Phil Lynott?

When we tell you Phil was cool, he was red hot, we mean he was steamin’

Anybody know anything about this bass…Guild Pilot?

One of the most playable basses I’ve ever owned. I sold it a few years ago and wish I hadn’t.

    Guess who’s playing.

Literally beat me by two mins! but yeah it does have all the Partridge trademarks.

    Bass Maintenance?

Full tear down every year. Every part removed, every screw cleaned and polished, remove and reinstall truss rod, and a full re-wire. Yes I’m kidding. I wipe it down each use, maybe polish it every now and then and check setup on a restring. That’s it. I will say, however, in all...

Long gig. Would you do it?

Hope they’re well-insured, because it is not merely possible but probable that someone will have a health-related incident. Beyond that, this doesn’t sound fun at all. Four to five hours - that’s still fun. Eight hours? All Elvis? That’s an endurance contest.

    Antithesis of TI Jazz Flats?

I use Roto 66s for very short term periods like if I’m going to play with or for real people. They sound so great brand new and I remember thinking “I’m sure their short life is hugely exaggerated.” It’s not. They’re done in as fast as two weeks. Still serviceable, though not always, but...

Rare photos of famous bassists playing Ricks

Did I miss it above? Did nobody put Bruce Foxton of the Jam up? I had to get a Rick bass for this reason alone.

    Dry fingerboard

OR, we could approach this from a different direction. Has anyone trashed their fretboard? What product/substance do you hold responsible?

    Dry fingerboard

No lie, I use suntan oil. Been doing it for 25 years now. Has linseed oil as its base, perhaps a little bit of stain, I don’t know, but my boards stay dark, moist and even smell like the beach (for five minutes). No negative effects 25 years later.

    Amp longevity

I tend to think that todays gear, if it’s of reasonable quality to begin with, will last just as long if it is kept up and not abused.
