Why Phil Lynott?

Admitting that you had to google who Phil Lynott was says way more about you than it does about him.

But seriously, Lynott was the man and it's good to see him getting some love. And I would bet everything I own that he would've thought 12k was a ridiculous price for a bass. But if someone has that kind of jack and wants to spend it on a bass, more power to them.

More profiteering from Fender. The fantastic Phil Lynott played a bog standard P bass with a bit of shiny tin for a scratchplate...oh and he always played with a pick too.

Proving that 1) there is no single P-bass sound and 2) it's all about the player. Phil could make anything sound like a steam-train at full tilt on Brunel's Billiard Table.

Maybe it's because Fender knows that Thin Lizzy fans are now older and Fender hopes some of them have enough money they'll part with to own something that reminds them of their youth, even if it's just one brand of several brands he played. Yes, I am one of those older fans, but occasionally listening to his recordings is more than enough nostalgia for me. YMMV, etc...
Considering it’s a very limited production run, that’s probably exactly right.

Phil Lynott is a rock and roll legend - his band Thin Lizzy wrote and recorded the song, "The Boys are Back in Town," which to this day is a staple of Classic Rock radio.
But however one may feel about him and his work, I agree that the bass is overpriced...yet, supply and demand dictate the going rate, like it or not.

Yep, being sold as a collector's piece. Don't break the seal.

Designed by John Cruz, a living legend among luthiers
If you want a guitar built by master luthier John Cruz, you’d better be patient — you could be on the wait list for over two years. John has been building some of Fender's best Custom Shop instruments for over two decades, including guitars and basses for Bruce Hall (REO Speedwagon), Mick Mars (Mötley Crüe), Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses), and Brad Whitford (Aerosmith). With the limited-edition Phil Lynott P Bass, you're getting an impeccable electric bass guitar masterbuilt by a legendary luthier.
