Why Phil Lynott?

Designed by John Cruz, a living legend among luthiers
If you want a guitar built by master luthier John Cruz, you’d better be patient — you could be on the wait list for over two years. John has been building some of Fender's best Custom Shop instruments for over two decades, including guitars and basses for Bruce Hall (REO Speedwagon), Mick Mars (Mötley Crüe), Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses), and Brad Whitford (Aerosmith). With the limited-edition Phil Lynott P Bass, you're getting an impeccable electric bass guitar masterbuilt by a legendary luthier.
Or for like $2k(?) more I can get a Wal or Alembic….built by equally skilled (if not more skilled) hands!

He only used the Ibanezes for two record/touring cycles before switching to the Roland bass.
Either way, I’ll take the Ibanez or his AWESOME Roland over the casual Precision! If I want a specific artist’s Precision, I’ll go for John Wetton’s, Roger Water’s, Paul Simonon’s Rosewood Board one, Ray Shulman’s, or Pino Palladino’s.

Also, if I shell $12.5k for a Lynott instrument, give me THIS:

The greatest front man that ever lived.
i think he was an outstanding frontman! with all due respect, there are at least a few others that could vie for that title. that most of them are dead, however, puts us on the same 'nostalgic' page.

"OMG! OMG!"

It seems to me you've got some homework to do.

I can only suggest you stop looking at that overpriced bass that Phil Lynott positively has had nothing to do with and instead start learning by listening to the albums "Fighting" and "Jailbreak."

That opening guitar hit of jailbreak is like the best way anyone has ever started an album haha

Alongside more 'serious' English bands of that day, Lizzy was like a shot of good Irish whiskey and a Guinness. Between Lynott out front of the twin leads, they rocked hard. Back in the day, 'Cowboy Song' was a big rave up in the copy bands, and you still hear 'Boys Are Back in Town' everywhere still today.

That price baffles me, even for FCS Masterbilt. If some of it's for his family, great. But $12.5k for a bass is in the tall grass, for sure.

This isn’t really a “signature guitar” in the lines of, “…this is what I play, if you want to play like me.”
Its much more along the lines of a historical recreation collector’s piece to hang on a wall as art.
The custom shop does these very limited runs more for advertising than anything else.
Nobody is going to buy a recreation of Terry Kath’s Tele to play on stage night after night.
