Why Phil Lynott?

When I saw the price, I expected it to be signed by Phil Lynott. (or at least played by him once) :jawdrop:

Do other Fender (not Squier) sig basses go for this kinda scratch?

Heck, even Gene Simmons "plays" the bass (and signs it?) before selling it for 12K.

Dude's been dead for a very long time, well before anyone at Fender dreamed up making a custom shop bass for him.

This was my thought as well. If he actually played it for any length of time what would it be worth? I’m thinking of the $300,000 ZZ Top bass that just sold.

I'm still waiting for the Jesus of Nazareth Custom Shop Jazz Bass, the ultimate cash grab. Complete with John 3:16 engraved pickguard and WWJD on the back of the headstock.
There was a guitar like that on the Metalocalypse cartoon; it was made from the wood of the cross, with an INRI inlay…and probably cost less than $12,500

Here’s the original.

I'd bet we could properly put together one just like it modding another made at Fender the same year for a lot less than FCS's Phil price of $12.50. Put your choice between Roto 66 or Roto 77s on it.

Typically, for what's asked for '70s Fender P basses these days, I see new FCS options as the better value; however, in this exceptional case that's all flipped onto its head.

I remember when this came out. Dunno how many were on the run, But £12K For a bass, a stencilled flight case, and the case candy? Ten Grand more than the Steve Harris model? I really don't get the Fender rationale behind that bass. And that's coming from a Philo/Lizzy fan.
