    Most unforgiving bass guitar?

Treble up, even boost the mids, and a bit of drive. Anything the brings out the upper mids and highs. Also fretless helped me learn to be precise on finger placement and getting notes to flow together.

    Geddy Lee Sansamp Pedal!

Wow! Came here to post a question and this might be the answer. In trying to push that edgy, gritty tone, the low notes just crap out once I get a nice distortion. Maybe it’s the blend of clean and distorted signal? EQ? High pass filter on the dirty signal? Been trying a Boss Overdrive, VT...

    Permanent series jazz wiring

What about eliminating the tone controls? Admittedly, I never use them so I have some wild ideas about what I can do with the extra hole in the control plate. Was thinking about a stereo output like a Rickenbacker and adding a 3 way selector. In other words, converting a jazz bass to a Rickenbacker

    Caught between a single 12” or a 2 X 10”

I did some homework. Stopped at Guitar Center and played through everything I could. Used an Aguilar Tonehammer 350. Did my best to get the cabinet up a bit or get my ears down a bit. Markbass NY 12” - lacked lows, not very clear, but if you want small and light... Markbass 2X10” traveler -...

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I figured it would be a bit back and forth. Lots of choices and personal preference.

    Caught between a single 12” or a 2 X 10”

Looking for a small cabinet, for a variety of styles, ranging from rock to blues to jazz to worship. Small venues, lower volumes... I like the fullness of sound that say a 4 X 10 gives but it’s not practical for what I need. I’m not really concerned with weight (I mean...it’s small), so if...

    Flatwounds on a through-body bridge

Thanks for the responses so far. While I can’t remember where I saw it, I erred on the side of caution. I agree, flats are much stiffer and don’t have the “ wiggle room” between the winds that rounds do.

    Flatwounds on a through-body bridge

i converted a Fender Am. STD to fretless. Like it. When I strung it up, I used the holes on the top of the bridge, rather than through the body...somewhere I read that the strings would be damaged going over the saddles if the thru holes were used. Can anyone confirm this or have experience...

    Good 4x10 bass cabinets?

Any love here for Markbass? I have a 2x10 Traveler. Nice and light and can be found on sale for < $500 if you keep your eyes open. Using a GK MB500 Head. After reading the posts here, I am debating just adding a second 2 x 10. Additionally, this setup will be used my teenage daughter who plays...
