Dream Theater should keep you busy for a while.

Damn you, I came here to learn about music, and all you guys did was make me hungry. Just to comment on an earlier post; I'm also one of those guys who LOVE to practice. I want to be challenged and reach for the impossible all the time. Slow and steady, I'm not giving up.

I need a few plays if it's very complex or fast, but I usually learn what I hear pretty easily. I usually don't nail it at first listen though.

That's the beauty of music, you will always be a student. There's always something new to discover, no matter what level you're at. :)

I'm a key player (pun intended :P) too, and one of the things I listen to the most when playing with a band is the bass. There's tons of space in the mid/high register, but down low, things quickly become muddy. Whenever I double the bass parts, I cut all lows from the sound I'm using in the LH...

Some people are born with talent, but I believe everyone can learn to play, just not as fast or as good as those guys. There are savants who remember every musical piece they hear, and can play it at first try without ever practicing an instrument. The rest of us just have to spend our lives...

Sadly, I have to agree. Except for my music teacher in music school, nobody has given me any "real" stuff. Pretty strange, in this age of information. :confused:

I prefer DRs too, especially the Black Beauties. Long lasting strings, but you'll have to get used to the feel. I can understand why some people don't like them. And.. they just look wrong. :D But I just can't get into anything lighter than 45-105. They tend to fly around too much, because...
