I refuse to be in a band that down tunes. I played in one and I didn't downtime, just played in Eb on many of the E songs. Not a problem. To me, it's a sign of players who can't play their instruments as they should be played. None of the reasons for it are valid to me. Just my opinion.

IMHO jazz players like to play with people who are familiar with either ireal pro or at least able to read chord charts. If it were me, I would have found out if you could do that or not. If not, I would have chosen someone else.

Like it or not, I've never experienced a fix for this kind of problem. You're either in the wrong band or you have the wrong singer.

Obviously you are a younger person. I was in my 20's when they hit the FM charts, which was a radical thing back in those days. You just weren't there it seems. As far as today goes, who cares what you classify them as. They did something no one had done before and an incredible influential...

I'm most picky about tone. All else is secondary.

I suggest the person who listens to the rest of the band is the best choice. I've played with one particular guitar player that was a great player and a nice guy. The problem was, he was very rude with his playing. Always stepping on others to highlight the guitar when the song needed...
